3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
Hi,
I have started collecting parts for a 3RZ+T conversion into my 3L LN106R dual cab Lux.
I have bought a 3RZ, R150F and a 2TR bellhousing from a KD150 for a conversion. I made sure I got a box with a long input shaft (190mm bell), as that is apparently the one to use with the 2TR bell (or so everyone says...). However, it doesn't seem to add up when I compare the measurements....
R150f bellhousing is 190mm, and input shaft is about 180mm, and about level with the end of the R150F bell. 2TR bell is 175mm, meaning that if I put this bell on the R150F box, the input shaft will protrude past the end of the bell, and therefore ther engine flange, by 15mm, and that can't work, can it?
Do I need a R150F with the shorter input shaft/bellhousing? Should I just make a spacer from 15mm alloy plate?
It's entirely possible I have totally missed a critical concept here, but i don't think I screwed the measurements up, and they seem to match my "totally accurate" eye measurements... Anyone know what the correct lengths for any of the parts (input, bell) is supposed to be?
I know there are a few that have done similar conversions here.... so any advice gratefully received!
Thanks heaps!
-Dave

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
I've got a R150 box from a 2LTE Surf that I was planning to bolt to my 3RZ.
My bellhousing is around 175mm.
It looks like you need the short shaft box to match your 2TR bellhousing.

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
Does the 15mm of extra shaft length go into the spiggot bearing maybe ?
put a straight edge across the flywheel/flange + bellhousing & box and take accurate measurements.
Then do the calculations, guesstimations will lead to problems.

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
I had a better look at it this morning, it's living in my father-in-laws shed at the moment...
I swapped the 2TR bellhousing on, and the input shaft protrudes 15mm past the mouth of the bell.
We test-fitted it to the motor (with and without the clutch), and it engages the spigot bearing ifne, just has a 30mm gap, which is conincidently the difference to the shorter shaft. It seems the shorter shaft box should bolt up.... so why do the dozen conversion threads say to use the longer-shaft box? Hey, I guess if it works that is the main thing....
Anyone aware if there are different length bells with 2TR/R155 pattern?

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
What was the lenght of the input shaft on the R150- 2TR gearbox?
That will be the right lenght you need.
Interested in the outcome of this set up.
Where did you find the info on the swap?

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
Heaps of info on 3RZ conversions on Outers, ToyMods, and Pirate4x4.... unfortunately much of it deals with US trucks, and things do not always translate perfectly.
Honestly, I have spent dozens of hours (on night shift at work, usually) searching....Google is surprisingly useful, but you have to troll through pages of irrelevant stuff to find one gem.

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
Read most of the threads on 3RZ conversions, but not much in the way of using the 2TR bellhousing.
Marlin makes a bellhousing for this swap, 3RZ to R15# box.

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
Yep, I have read them all too. My wife thinks she's been widowed!
I believe the Marlin bellhousing has been discontinued, once it was discovered that the same could be achieved with a Toyota part cheaper. Could be wrong tho, but that is the impression I have got from reading.
I can tell you that the 2TR bellhousing definately does match up to the 3RZ and R150/R151 (with or without the "F", and I guess the R154 too) bolt patterns. The 2TR has the same block and clutch pattern as the 3RZ, and runs a R155 box, which shares its pattern with the other R-series boxes.
Although I haven't actually bolted it up yet, it seems the shorter-shaft R-series box is the one to use with this bellhousing... the long-shaft is 30mm too long, so I'm hopeful...
Worst case scenario, if you had a long-shaft box and couldn't swap (say a R154 Supra box) you could mill up a 30mm alloy spacer...
BTW, big props to D&W Wreckers at Rocklea, who happily agreed to swap the long-shaft box for a short- one, when I realised I'd got the wrong one!

Re: 3RZ+T + R150F into Hilux
Ok, bolted it up this morning....2TR bellhousing on short (160mm) shaft R150F matched up to 3RZ perfectly. Too easy!
