Hi fellas. A couple of weekends ago, I did a gear box swap on the Patrol, it now turns out the the box I swapped has some bad bearings (noise in all gears except fourth plus admission by previous owner!).
I also put in a new clutch disk and throw out bearings.
My problem is that when I am in a lot of traffic, it gets hard to select gear after a while. It seems fairly ok in regular driving though. and once I am back on the highway it seems to behave quite normaly.
Also fourth pops/slips out if I give it gas quickly. Could this be the master or slave cylinder needing bleeding? Also (i am not sure if this is related), when the vehicle is on an incline and in neutral, it refuses to move, with the handbrake off. My mechanic tested it for binding, but he says it seems ok. I dont know if this is related to the previous problem.

Re: clutch or gearbox
sounds like the slecter fork in side the gear box time for a rebuild

Popping out of 4th is a gearbox problem. Could be worn parts like the dog teeth, or the shimming could be way too loose.
I'd start with changing the gearbox as that's an obvious problem. Then look at the clutch system. The hard shifting in traffic is possibly old fluid boiling from the heat of the standing motor, and the pressure from holding down the pedal. Change the fluid first. If the cylinders aren't leaking they are probably ok. But if a fluid change doesn't fix it you may have to look at the accumulator. You should also check the pedal for adjustment, make sure it's giving enough throw.
Not rolling on a hill is an interesting one. I'd be sure it's a brake related issue. I can't imagine enough binding/friction in the drive train to hold it, without presenting obvious problems when driving.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.
Re: Clutch or gearbox?
Thanks guys, I will change the fluid in the master and slave, as they didnt change that, when the did the gearbox and it hasnt been changed in a couple years. What is the accumulater?oldmate wrote:Lawrence wrote:Hi fellas. Maybe when I change the box, the binding problem will go away.
