Dont see why not seeing as though I removed the bench style seat from mine and put the centre console in.
All the holes were there they just had rubber bungs in them.

Plenty of wagons came with that seat instead of a console.
I think it was mainly (only?) the GLi model wagons, they were 6 seaters with no 3rd row. The GLi's second row seat wasn't split in the middle (so you can have 3 child seats across it without a crab bar) and a steel back - so when it folded down it made the cargo space resemble a ute tub.

IMO the front middle seat doesn't suit anyone who has legs longer than their nose, and the seat frame is bolted solid to the floor so isn't adjustable - which means you can't fit a rear-facing baby seat anywhere but behind the driver's seat (if that's applicable to you). You also lose your cup holders :drinking:
I'm going to do the opposite to you, and swap out the bench seat for a bucket seat and console. My wife can't recline the seat when she sleeps on long drives, and I'm sick of my coffee spilling ;)
