I am trying to fit a snorkel to my NJ 2.8 which appears to be a Safari SS25HF copy but dont have instructions
Can anyone help with the aluminium cast piece that goes inside the guard. Does this replace the part that is bolted on and joins the internal rubber pipe to the air cleaner or does it sit over this peice?

It looks like it could work either way. Other thought is you need to drill holes in this part and bolt it up to the body which would make sense. There would appear to be two additional bolts which has triggered this thought but really am not sure.
I helped out on fitting a snorkel to a Gen 2 Pajero some time back. The aluminium piece was used and fitted up to the air cleaner box, replacing the original plastic inlet piece. It became obvious when we opened up the area.
You definitely need the template to drill the hole through the outer fender skin. It is scary, because it seems like it is in the wrong place (too far back), but when the hole was finally made, it was smack on the mark. The aluminium piece is offset. The rubber hose bridges the gap very well. I recommend that you use the right sized hole saw, and put masking tape on the cutting area to minimise chipping the paint. When you have cut the hole, put plenty of paint on the exposed areas to prevent rusting. The rest of the installation is relatively simple - you need another couple of screw holes on the horizontal section and two more on the windscreeen pillar.
be careful using sikaflex as ive heard the fumes can have an affect on the airflow meter during curing time. I think my instructions said to use a urethane based sealent not silicon
