Well folks, after selling my beloved 2-door with a maxi and 35's. I have the bug again. So i have just bought i '86 with a 5 speed. It is completly stock (even has the original spare tyre) So just wanted to know if anyone knows of a good suspension package. Was trying to avoid body blocks, but if necessary i will go down that path. Looking at about 5 inches of travel or more.
We think you may mean 5 inches LIFT.
Range Rovers have more than 5 inches travel.
This is serious stuff.
How deep are your pockets? Probably cost more than teh Rangie to have that lift, aside from the Engineers certificate which will itself probably cost more than the Rangie did.LOL
2 inches is the max cheap lift.
Yeah sorry guys, got a little ahead of myself i think, too excited about building my own truck. Basically i was seeing if anyone had any other thoughts than the old tried and true 2 inch body and 2 inch suspension.
Plenty of people have different lifts, the 2+2 is just the norm and a safe average.
IMHO I don't really like body lifts, and cutting the guards seems to work well enough.
Assuming you wont be jumping it.

i don't understand why you would do that? the body lift throws everything outta whack - bar work, internal shiat, etc, all this to gain no travel? i would give my left spud if a decent 3" spring lift wasn't more stable through hard terrain then standard with a 3" BL

a body lift doesnt raise the COG as much as a spring lift.....but yes I agree with you that a spring lift done PROPERLY would be better
I dont think the body lift would be an issue. I just think getting hung up on everything would be a PITA.
I currently have 3" front springs and 5" rears (approx), with a 1" body lift and 37" tyres, and the only time I strugle is when I am getting hung up on everything!

If you are worried about tyres rubbing in the guards then do the 2" body lift. If not then get a grinder and start trimming, also trim all the bolts and screw heads that protrude into the wheel wells to save the tyres from getting chunked!
As for the body lift, Blocks and bolts. Also need to fab a link for the rear seatbelt chassis mounts.
I cant recall if i required to do anything with the front radiator??? I might have adjusted the top mounts, and redrilled them in postition... Can't even go out and have a look at the vehicle as its not here.
If you are using the visco fan, you will need to relocate the radiator, because the shroud wont fit any longer.
After relocating the radiator, the shroud in the front wont fit any more...
Better would be to leave the radiator on his original position and use two thermo fans instead.
Next to the body mount blocks, you will need some spacer for the body support rubbers and your break lines in the front will need some stretching.
sweet, thanks guys, will most likely got the LRA way for the body lift kit, can't find many others. Anyone know when they will start making maxi's again for range rovers, im trying to hunt a rear end down
