sierra carby issues

i have just brought a 1997 hardtop sierra and its has some carby issues

one minute it will idle at 1600 then will drive along then come to a stop then will stall then will take 2 secs to restart

if it idles under 1300 it will cough and splutter

the guy i had brought it off said he hasnt been driving it for a couple of months so what can i do to rectify the problem

the carby probably needs a rebuild or atleast a clean out take the carby hat off give it some revs and stick your hand over the throat and chole it do this a couple of times it will clean the shit out of the jets.
It may also have a vacuum leak spray soapy water around the carby and and if the revs drop it has a leak also inspect all the vac lines as one may have a split in it.
another thing to check is the choke take the carby hat off and start it up let it idle and as it warms up you will be able to see the choke start to open up if it doesnt then the choke probably will be causing the probalem.
