Hey,
Just a qucik question. Ive always liked the short pajero better for some reason, but when i was buying one there were none that were in good condition. Now i have found one, its a pretty good price for it, and has winch, 31s, suspension lift, new clutch, brakes etc. Anyways would it be worth it selling my LWB, also winch 33s, suspension lift, body lift.... for a short wheel base? oh yeah mine is an auto and the shorty is a manual, but same engine

It's hard to tell from the photos but it looks pretty high, and one of the front photos looks like it has a body lift. But, when I went looking for a body lift at the rear bumper, I can't see it. So that has me confused.
I don't know what happened in other markets, but in Aus a '91 would be what we call NH. The wheels on that Paj are from our NJ, that was released in late 1993 - so I don't think that has its original wheels.
Here in Australia, there was (reportedly) a change to the front end geometry from NH to NJ, so that the NJ ran more clearance at the front from the factory. If that is equivalent to our NH then you may be losing out on front end clearance, compared to finding a later model.

Yea the wheels are off a L200, he mentions that in the add. And body lift in the front? From the pics i just thought it has suspension lift

If you are planning to get rid of your LWB you need to ask yourself, how is your LWB running? Is there any problems? If you regularly carry 5 passengers and luggage then forget the SWB, but if theres only 2 or 3 of you then the SWB would do fine!! The suspension lift is more than likely rear springs from an LWB and front torsion bars wound up, the wheels were available on the L200 or european spec Shogun models. You could always swap with your 33s? With the suspension lift they would fit. Also if I'm not mistaken the 2.8 TD and 3.0/3.5 V6s have a 1.5inch body lift over standard (to allow for the larger gearbox). That is a nice Pajero, I think if you are considering getting rid of the LWB and replacing with the SWB, the only main question to ask yourself is there enough space in the SWB for everything you need? LWB typically seats 5 people (or 7 with 3rd row seating) whereas the SWB only seats 4 people. Any other questions I can help with? Chris

Will i do carry 5 people to time to time but usually its either me and my friends or just me. Will the reasons i would consider the shorty is because, ive always been a manual fan, and i just like the look of the shorty. Plus my car is mainly daily driver and offroad sometimes. And i cant swap my 33 because that the only set of rubber i have if i told my LWB and got that shorty i would get it with 31s And for problems with my LWB, not much i can complain about... needs timeing belt change soon, and a new exhaust system thats about it..

SWB legally wont carry 5 people, the rear seats are split 50/50 and only have 2 seatbelts, making it a 4 seater, but as you say you rarely carry 5 people then all you have to do is say "no"... SWBs definately are cool looking and very capable offroad, I say go for it!! I myself will be getting a SWB soon as my soft-top's engine died and I fancy a nice hardtop SWB too!!

My 1991 NH shorty has 3 seatbelts in the back and is legal for 5 people. i currently own a shorty paj and have found that in the off road it is much more capaple then he lWB i put a 2 inch body lift in mid and can fit 33's if i can find a pair. where abouts do you live maybe i can trade you my 31" at for your 33's on your lwb. but if i were you i would get rid of the lwb and get the shorty.

Sorry 4x4boi as Mechz pointed out they do have 5 seatbelts not 4, the middle one was just tucked down my seat and I never thought to look at it because the J-Top only had 2 rear seatbelts!! They are great to drive and really do get a lot of attention, the SWBs are bigger than they look!!

Will after few people checking out my car, i decided to keep it some of teh guys that came to check it out, either their wife talked them down or they wanted it really cheap, and a few were the kind '' I Will think about it''
Now winters almost here, snow and etc looking forward to that. Plus have no problems with my pajero at all, its all good, going to replace the timingbelt,water pump etc.. in the next 2 weeks and than everything is 100% ok . Made some mudflaps a few days ago. What do you reckon, with chian or no chain? Now have to figure out somekinda rear bumper...

Cant you find a bumper off another V6, Ie, 3 litre or 3.5, in a scrap yard locally to you???, sorry to see that your still stuck with the LWB, but if you dont do any serious off roading, then cant really see why you would want to change it for maybe a one thats not in as good a condition as the LWB of yours, its great for using as a every day driver and now and again, green lanning, but its not that good, for tight situations in mud and water, as it tends to get hung up in steep drops and you tend to loose your back exhaust box and tail pipe and to say nothing of damaging your petrol tank too.

Dont want to get a stock bumper want to make one, just have to design one first And yea dont do much Serious offroad just some tours around here and there with some fellow 4wders. But it never let me down!

My experience with SWB gen 1 and LWB gen 1 and 2.5 is that while the SWB may be more capable off road, it's not as stable on road as a LWB. I've had a few unnerving experiences with the SWB where it's hit bumps and started dancing around the road. For a travel oriented car I'd much prefer a LWB, although if I was constantly doing serious off-roading I'd go for a SWB.
