Tyre Placards - aftermarket option?

Post by sidewayz »

hey,

Im chasing a tyre placard for my patrol. Is there somehwere to source these or does anyone know of someone who can make them up?

I would prefer something custom ;) or alternativly one from a 4.2 petrol gq wagon as from what i can tell the left the factory with the largest tyre of the GQ range (auto/man,wagon/ute,petrol/diesel). Or there is a landcruiser model that comes factory with soem decent tread, but i have NFI what model...

have looked on ebay, but only found ones to suit commodores/hsv.

Nice

I think some rovers (1 tonne series 2/3 ?) came with a 36" tyre - best go for one of their placards if they came with them.

hmmm

nice idea, but i think the tyre dimensions of a 36" tyre mite stand out a bit too much....

idealy something with around a 33" or 285/75/16 tyre standard would be best

Toyota ones are available through the dealer....think I paid around $7 for mine.

Maybe try your local nissan dealership.

On GQ's they are on the glovebox lid...mine is.

Aren't they dated? Mine is dated 07/93 Any others may clash with your rego build details.

Just on the side:

Now mine has a tyre placard but it does not reflect the tyre options and probably relates to the standard wheel pack. It does not reflect the factory optional wide wheel pack that had been added prior to my purchase.

There is however an overall tyre / wheel manual that will tell you what is the max tyre rim combo you can have for your rig. This gives rolling circumference details etc....and is noted by the authorities.

It would most likely have toyota written on it somewhere, bit of a giveaway

Yep, I know of a few people that have been fined for either no tyre placard or the incorrect one ( had later model placard that had larger diameter rims). It is a small risk but a risk none the less

yeah there is two reasons for this:

1: my tyre placard is worn away after 15 years of shit int he glovebox rubbing against it

2: i want to replace it with something that has a bigger tyre standard then my current.

RN: do you know where that manual can be found?

surely somebody out there makes up aftermarket tyre placards?

In the past, I've done just that with Signwriters vinyl, Clear contact and a Laser printer.

Looked the real thing and even I had trouble telling them apart, besides the extra tire sizes found within

Just a little idea....

Take your old placard to a mr minit and get them to engrave you a new one with what you want on it.....

I did that with my old FJ55 a few years back and you couldnt tell the difference.

Changing the placard doesnt make it a legal tyre change though..

When my earlier 4bee was engineered with bigger tyres he issued a placard with the papers.

Won't help you.

A friend was recently done for tyre size in QLD. Copper didn't even ask to look at the tyre placecard, just got out a book in his car and referenced it from there.

Stock tyres on the vehicle is 32". Non standard rubber was a 33" (and a small 33" at that, Maxxis Bighorn). Didn't look abnormal or unusual at all...just unlucky.

yeah i currently run 305/70/16 so its a little under 33". probly the same deal, doesnt look big just a bit unlucky with the wrong traffic branch cop.

But mine being a dx wagon 95 model td4.2 had a smaller original tyre then a 4.2 petrol wagon of the same year. So just chasing a placard that has somehting a little closer to 33"

doesn't change what is in the plod's handbook. Most traffic cops could tell you what is and isn't legal in two seconds it's their job!

Traffic cops wouldnt know whats illegal and legal if its right in front of them.
We have customers come in all the time with these problems police tell them they need mod codes for things that have no codes and are legal.Just try nissan for a card if your worried about it or go to the wreckers.

Would the obvious thing be to go to a wrecker and look through the glovebox lids for the one you want?

Traffic cops know their stuff. I have been pulled over 10 times and not one has been wrong about mods etc. Thats including high performance stuff.

The manuals are not that readily sourced but a work colleague has one.
