80 series front mount sizes??

Post by gatto45 »

hey all
Im in the process of front mount intercooling my 80 series. Ive decided to go front mount cause of the cost factor and i not sure wat im doin with the car. (Ie keeping it as a tourer or chopping it up as a toy)
wat i cant seem to find any where is any info on cooler sizes or piping sizes relivant to my engine.
its a 1HDT all factory except for 3" exhaust, 12psi boost and fuel pump has been tinkered with (not just max fuel but the fuel compensator and the other adjustment underneith that, cant think of the name of it atm)
Any info on piping sizes and cooler sizes or any info at all would be great.
Thanks heaps.

eBay china or the like for the cooler for size get a tape measure. Run pipes though under rh headlight may need to move battery for this. For piping run same size as what comes out of turbo this is what I've found out looking into doing it to mine 99% sure it's spot on
plenty of parts on the bench

if you want a quality brand of intercooler, i got the one for my 105 series from http://www.are.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Couldnt be happier.

very good read up on their website and lots of research explaining alot about why its (most of the time) pointless to get cheap intercoolers. You get what you pay for.
Website also explains alot better than i can about sizing of coolers. ;)

Id say go with 2 or 2.5inch pipe as its easier to find bends and its easier to run the pipes. And the bigger the pipe size you have, the more volume you have to fill before it reaches your engine. Which means a bit more lag but in a big engine lag isnt as scary as everyone makes it out to be but thats a different subject.

Just work out the size of the space you can fit it in. Where you want to run your pipes (out the same side or out opposite sides etc). Power level you want to cool. Then have a look on their website or give them a call. Thats all i did anyways.

I have a 500 x 300 x 76mm PWR tube and fin core, with 2.5" inlet/outlet. Fits nicely behind the grill, with just a little shaving of the plastic.
