Internal Wastegate Q's

Post by Lux_89 »

Hi guys, merry christmas to ALL! Just a Question about an internally wastegated turbo i have on my hilux.. on the wastegate itself, where the rod goes in, its got a barb hanging out, wich you connect to your highpressure side of your turbo to, and a boost controller if needed... Now my gate has a 2nd barb just behind the front one like shown in this pic.. Can someone tell me what its for and where i shoudl connect it to?

looks like it could be a 2 stage waste gate or some kind of push/pull gate.

I have never seen one like that b4 so i cant comment any more.

The dual port configuration allows for a second air signal on the opposite side of the diaphragm; the spring side. By adjusting the air pressure with a regulator (Variable Boost Controller) either up or down (on the spring side), has an effect like changing the spring pressure. To increase the boost? The pressure is raised on the spring side and the wastegate closes. To achieve less boost? The pressure on the spring side is lowered and the wastegate opens.

Thanks very much. Thats a big help. Ive got my hose on the front one, and the rear one just open to the atmosphere.. Im holding a constant 10psi boost without a controller, however when the throttle is down for a while it spikes to 15psi. So yet to work out where to actually plumb the second outlet to?

The terms "front" and "rear" in this circumstance can be ambiguous.... perhaps you could be more descriptive to give a clearer picture of what's connected to what.... just a thought... and a question from me... did the diaphram/controller come with the turbo/kit or was it bought separately... if separately, where from? thanks

I bought a wastegate just like that, the second chamber isn't sealed so it's a complete waste of time and money. Doesn't do anything a single port wastegate does.
Check if your one is any good.
