1pz shortie

Post by troopy94 »

Hi guys
I am looking at a mwb landcruiser with the 5 cylinder ipz diesel engine , the vehicle is in very good condition externaly but it has a suspect transfer case. I have done some research and have found it runs the r151f gearbox but would like to know if the transfer could be replaced with a transfer from a hj75 or hj60 as I have access to both of these. Also if there are any other problems to look out for and in general are they worth looking at or a were they a lemon.
Any help would be muchly appreciated

if its a split case many of the gears are exactly the same you just have to check the idle shaft diameter you need to use the plate that bolts the box to the transfer and that will determin which shaft size you will have to use

i also has r151 in my truck and used gears from a 60
a bundy td will have exactly what you want

thankyou for the info thrashlux I was hoping it could just be a straight swap with the transfers as that would be quicker . The car I can get for $1500 with 290000 on it with new brakes , snorkle, duel batteries and no rust at all and only needs a new windscreen and the transfer doesn't want to engage 4x4 .

if its a split case you have to pull it apart to pull it off any way so no extra work to just swap the internals

If its a 1PZ it isn't a bundera. Go read the chassis number from the chassis rail in the right front inner guard.

Bunderas basically look like a SWB landcruiser but have (mostly) hilux running gear and coil spring all round. a PZJ73 is not a bundera.

The model will be a pzj70
this motor is the same as the 1hz but missing 1 cylinder, quite a popular motor in the pzj75s in the Canadian mines back in the day ,

I think some thing with the fly wheel is different , as for a swap depending on were " they chopped the 6th cyl fro
if it's from the back then the front half / engine mounts should be in the same spot ,
why not just turbo the pz it'll hoot along

The 1pz is a good little motor. Exactly the same pro's and cons as a 1hz except it has a dual mass flywheel (can be changed to solid). I have an engine with a solid flywheel that I would be willing to part with. PM me.

The 1PZ motor has a stuffed head and I am have trouble findimg a replacement head, If I can not get one I am thinking of changing to a 1HZ ( a few more of these around), looks like it would fit amd I think the same model came out with the 1HZ and the 1PZ, just not sUre on the Gear box

The HZJ70/HZJ73 have the larger H55F gearbox. I've only seen one PZJ70 and was surprised to see it had the small gearbox rather than the big ones in the BJ/HZJ70/73. From memory the gearbox support cross member was different and in a different position as well. But I don't imagine it being too difficult to modify if you wanted to swap to the H55F gearbox as well as the 1HZ.

The H55F gearbox in the HZJ/70/73 is the same as the one in the BJ70/73 but has a different input shaft I believe.

PS I think other 1HZ cruisers also had the r151 gearbox so there must be a way of getting the 1HZ to work with your gearbox.
