The 2.4diesel is always going to be gutless, and not much better with a turbo on it.
If you were set on staying with the diesel, then go for a 2.8turboed diesel.

But IMO you wouldnt get a heap more power, look at maybe a 3rz conversion.
The 2.7lt petty motor has good power and good torque too. And its a Yota engine too, and from what Ive been told and read, its not really a hard swap.

I was going to go 3rz but decided on something else.

2.4 Turbo Diesel are not gut less at all if u build them right . Mine turns 37s with ease and is still able to do 110 on the high way . I also have a 5l Turbo in my tourer and its great i would go with the 5l over the 2.8 .
p.s I have a dyno sheet showning my 2.4 made 76kw at the tyres on 37s not bad for a gutless 2.4 . :D

:D ... Pig 83 is correct, if built right and tuned right the 2.4T is a way better motor than the 2.8 boat anchor...

No conversion is cheap, so if you want to stick with a deisel then rebuild the 2.4T, ensuring you have to pumps and injectors and Turbo (possibly upgrade turbo) done remembering these engines are 30yr old now. also fit an intercooler so you can run higher boost...
You also want better power etc... look at a diff ratio swap as the 92 lux deisel came with 4.5's try 4.88's or 5.29's depending on the tryes your running.
