left hand side pumpkin?
hey guys.
im after info on what sort of car has a solid axle preferably coil with the pumpkin on the passenger side.
im looking at putting it in my navara that i have sitting out the back.
If there are no good diffs ill just have to suck it up and flip a gq front.
but hopefully there will be a decent diff.fingers crossed.
cheers

Try asking in the respective sections about strength. You wanted LH drop...

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
Pretty much any 1990+ Jeep will have a left hand drop.
Will probably be Dana 30 or Dana 44 axles.
Also Unimog 404 axles are left hand drop.
Also I'm pretty sure most FORD solid axle trucks have a left hand drop. Mostly just the American Ford Trucks (not the maverick.)
Will probably be Dana 44 or dana 60 axles
Not real helpful but that's about all I can think of for now.

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
Pretty certain 100% of the TJ wranglers landed in australia with Dana 30's in the front.
The JK's also have the Dana 30 with the JK Rubicon getting the D44 front.
Jeep XJ's also run a D30 front from memory.
Some of the F trucks floating around also run a D44 front as it's a popular swap for jeeps looking for a tougher front diff though there are track width issues.
Strength wise I think with tougher axles / uni's they aren't a bad diff, though I'm certain the Nissan Yota bunch will disagree.

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
You said in the Nissan section you want to run 38s+. If if you find the strength in a flipped diff or D60, are you going to find the gearing in the Navara transfer good enough.
Make sure first or you might as well rip the whole driveline out and start again.
Sit down and plan the build before you start cutting and spending.

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
TJ or XJ diffs will probably not be wide enough to be the same track as the Nissan rear diff.
JK diff will be.
If you're going to start increasing the width of a left hand drop diff you may as well consider chopping up a pootrol diff if you want to keep it all oem nissan.

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
Not the Discos, they are all RH drop. For the Rangies it was only the P38a's that were LH drop and I'm not sure if it was all of them. These are not a good front end to use strength wise with pretty much no upgrades to the CV's.DAMKIA wrote:D44 Jeep (late)

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
Earlier cherokees (ie 79-89) running non quadratrac transfer cases have a LH drop front dana 44.
And they also run 6 on 5.5" stud pattern (same as patrol +/- 0.3mm)
They are leaf sprung, but if you are modding one to go into your Nav then you'll be doing some fab work anyway I guess.
I ran mine for 3 years, on 35-37" rubber with 4.88 and detriot centre with no axle uni or diff centre issues.
Being Jeep/Dana, about a gazillion mods are available from the US anyway to improve them further.
Am parting the Chero at the moment and this diff is for sale (as is a matching ratio'd/locked disc brake D60), PM me if interested.

You can get 85% reduction gears for them, but depending on year model, there strength is questionable, the chains like to stretch.zookimal wrote:You said in the Nissan section you want to run 38s+. Re: left hand side pumpkin?
thanks for the help guys.
how much is a custom diff from bubs?
i rang lukey from lukeys 4x4 but he didnt want to flip a gq front for me and the place he recommended doesnt answer phones.
The other diff shops i rang didnt have a clue how to do it.
Thinking of selling the motor, box and transfer and putting the commo v6 thats sitting in the shed with a t400 and patrol transfer case.
Any idea on how much the motor box and tranny is worth?its the 2.7 diesel i think with 5 speed manual box.Only has 160xxxkms.
Might start doing the body and barwork while im deciding on driveline configurations.
hopefully it turns out as good as im planning.

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
Lukey suggested Jmac.
I only tried to call last week.
Ill give buddy a ring also but im now thinking the patrol transfer would be stonger and i do have the v6 commo motor and box sitting here doing nothing.
Just so everyone knows my plans for the truck are solid conversion obviously,38s for bush and 33s on road, transfer gears, cage and barwork.
hmmm decisions decisions

If you have the commy motor and box and it is a complete custom job i would use them. But i would use a hilux transfer as they are more comonly adapted to the V6 box.

Re: left hand side pumpkin?
atleast if you do go down the path of swapping gbox and transfer etc with either patrol or hilux atleast you have solved the problem of LH centre on front diff.
v6 commy, auto, lux case, gq diffs all pretty cheap bits if you want to put the work in

sierra truggy,37 sticky treps,propane,6.5s and disconnect,lux diffs with spools,16" fox shox,hydro steer.
Re: left hand side pumpkin?
Yeah it seems the easiest route to go.
The work isnt a drama and Ive got most of the parts here as i have a hilux also.
So looks like ill be doing the first d21 navara on gq diffs and 38s?
