I've bought a GQ Patrol with a 2" body lift installed. The installer thought it would be OK to just take the lower section off the fan shroud to allow for the extra height.
Long story short is that I want to either correct the height of the radiator or the shroud. The best solution is to drop the whole radiator as it will then give pretty well factory spec cooling. The drama is that then the overflow will be higher than the radiator - will this matter

Won't matter that the overflow is higher than the radiator. It is better to run the complete shroud but not necessary, it only offers a slight cooling advantage.
I can't see that it will be a problem to have the overflow above the cap.
Cut fan shrouds are hack, regardless of whether it's the accepted practice or not.

Its a GQ with the TD42, it does get warm, not overheating but does get fairly warm with the front mount intercooler and AC both heating the air before it hits the radiator.
The GQ gauge is however known as not being entirely correct. The reason for the change is partially based on temp and aswell as finishing it the way it should be done.

The body lift was already in there. PITA to remove it, rework the bars. Since its there it might as well stay.

If it's not overheating, I guess I can't slag off the method too much. But in principle you really want the cowl in place. It is an integral part of the cooling system.
I would lower the radiator and would not be concerned about the overflow bottle, as it works by relative pressure not gravity.
I have exactly the same setup (TD42, 2" BL, FMIC, AC) and mine doesnt get warm (although I run a PWR radiator too)
I used 2 flat pieces of aluminium bar (30mm x 3mm) and bolted these to the radiator on the original cowl mounts, then redrilled new holes 2" lower to re-mount the cowl.
I would send you some pics, but its a bugger to get the camera in there
Leave the BL in. Its great when you need to do a clutch as its easier to get the g/box out, and you can lift the front shock mounts 2" so your longer shocks dont bottom out, and you can fit the Superior spring tower brace on the rear upper spring mounts so they dont tear off.
