Can someone with a pre '77 Rangie have a look at their ADR compliance plate and tell me what ADR's are listed?
And can someone with a defender with rover rear axle (not Sals) have a look at their tyre placard and tell me what the listings are.

Auto-eng, looking at building a registered 1/2 buggy (not indv. cons. but under mod codes) and was trying to see if it was worthwhile sourcing an earlier frame if it has less ADR's to comply with. 89 doesn't have the side intrusion ADR which was the only hold up so I will probably just use mine, bit of a bummer cause if I got another frame I could leave the Rangie on the road while I work on the new frame. Just seeing if it is worth the $500 + travel to go to the coast for a frame....

I would go for another frame. If you make the body so it can be removed you can just do a last minute swap of your body and the tube one
ADR 29 doesn't come in for off road vehicle until 97...
Even then taking your rear seats out can change the category of vehicle to a goods vehicle and then the applicablity of ADr 29 changes again...

Basically wont be using any rangie body.
Basic recipe is, remove front frame overhang to first crossmember, remove rear overhang behind second last crossmember, relocate fuel tank, build tube upper, sling in drivetrain, go see engineer again.....
Will call the axles defender items so I get 7.50r16 as stock tire, probably us a series or sierra bonnet and removable tube 'fenders' 40 series style....
Nearest engineer is 400k's away so I've gotta get all my ducks in a row before I start paying for his services.

To do the vehicle the way you have described each of the things you do will be considered the modification of a production vehicle therefore you will be limited in modifications such as suspension and alternative wheels and tyres.
You will need modification plates for the body change, chassis mod, suspension/brake mod, seat/seatbelt mod, fuel tank mod.
If you are able to do the vehicle as an idiviually constructed vehicle the vehicle will be certified as a whole but this will mean you will have to use a late model engine.
This will also mean you will have to pass a lane change test and a few other bits and pieces. As a general rule if your vehicle has twice as much in load carrying capacity as it does seating capacity it will be considered to be a "good carrying vehicle" as opposed to a "Off road passenger vehicle". Allow 68 kg per seating position. If the vehicle is considered to be a goods vehicle the applicability of crash protection rules and side door strength will be less if at all.
As an ICV you will be meeting ADR regulations in place at the current date as opposed to at the date of manufacture of the chassis.

My early one was regoed as 1973 without power steer , didn't have a adr plate fitted
When we tryed to find out the exact year it was biult it kept comming up late 72.
Auto eng , might know , I will go the gq diff change once i have the rest engineered , with the gq diffs I will be able to registerit with 35s,
You probly seen the pics in members similar to what you want to do
Just engineering as a RE-body - Still along way to go
