Hi all,
I am in the market for a GQ patrol right now and most of the ones around my price range are the TB42 Petrol's. I really want a diesel but cant seem to find any for the $5k I have to spend :(
Most of the cars are around 330,000+ K and on Gas, As usuall service history plays a big part of it all, but do you think Im just asking for trouble with a car with this many Km's? Will the engines need rebuilding soon? If so, are they expensive usually?
The other question is about Year models, I have heard that some early GQ's had Leaf springs, was this only the Ute's or the wagon's aswell?
Cheers
John

TB42 - Life expectancy and GQ Year model Q's
Re: TB42 - Life expectancy and GQ Year model Q's
hey mate,
my diesel cost me 6000 and it was stock as a rock... if your patient they do come up for low prices because people do want to be rid of them sometimes, its basically a blank canvas for you to start on then.
She had 380 000 on it when i bought it.. strapped a turbo on, still going strong with 420 000 now on it... If you wait one will come up... In my opinion go diesel, if you can spare some more cash and wait the time for one to come up..
Cheers

bide your time and get a 4.2 diesel you might need to spend a little more but it will be well worth it. stock 4.2 wagons come up every now and again but do go really quick
Re: TB42 - Life expectancy and GQ Year model Q's
Thanks for the replies. I wouldnt mind saving for a few more weeks if I can find a TD42 for $6k, I just didnt think it was realistic to find one for that. Might just save a bit longer and hopefully something comes up.
Re: TB42 - Life expectancy and GQ Year model Q's
all patrol utes gq or gu had leaf or coil rear, all wagons were all coil. value for money your better off chasing down a gq wagon 4.2d. the odd one does come for sale around 6k,and this way you have a 4.2(great donk) with all coil suspension. dont get a 4.2 petrol, trust me, great power strong donk but economy is very sad,
Re: TB42 - Life expectancy and GQ Year model Q's
Yeah best advice really is remember there are plenty of GQ's on the market right now and some poeple will ask for heaps for not alot of car.
Bide your time and keep a level head when you're shopping. Don't let your heart fool your head!
