80 series Transfer Possible Bad Problems
on the weekend i went for a bit of a bash in the local forestry and unfortunately got some sandstone wedge in my bead of the tyre. and let alot of air out. its a 1991 80 series running gear with full time. now i drove it back home. possibily 5-7kms. next mornin i moved it out of the shed to wash it and it seems to have a clunk every now and then. almost to the point when it locks the wheels up. is there anyway i can reverse what has happened?

The transfer and gearbox are quite robust. My first thought would be a front diff or cv joint.
Check for any obstructions like sticks or rocks around the wheels and turning bits.
Check the fluid levels off the diffs and transfer/gearbox to see if any is running low, or is unusually coloured that might indicate a possible problem.
Jack up the front and rear both sides on stands and run it though the gears to see if you get the knock. Get under the truck and see if you can feel where the knock is coming from (having a mate run the truck)
You can isolate the front end asthe problem by dropping the front drive shaft and removing the outer flange on the hubs, locking the centre diff and going for a drive. The same can be done for the rear by removing the drive shaft and axles.

i will try the above methods tomorrow arvo. i just went up the shed to have a look for uni's and stuff that could jam it up. everything seems fine except for a oil leak thats coming out behind the tailshaft on the box. maybe it has spat a bearing or something? it has slight play in the yoke. thats with the tailshaft still fitted but.

turned out to be a blown cv mate. i have it all apart now. fitting air locker at the moment. thanks for the help oldmate

the situation you described shouldnt have any effect on your transfer. even if one tyre was fully deflated, the front diff will compensate for different diametre tyres etc, and the centre diff will also compensate for this too. as long as the diffs arent locked, a difference in tyre size shouldnt damage driveline components
