grand cherokee turns over but wont fire

having issues with 96 grand cherokee limited,its turning over but wont start,the fuel light comes on but the fuel guage and voltmeter dont move when u turn it on,and yes it has fuel,put an extra 10 litres in just to be sure,it occaisionally has issues,sometimes the windows wont go down,sometimes u have to unlock it manually as button wont unlock it,and a month or so back it would start up but shut off,immobiliser was cutting it out,any ideas on what the prob could be

Wow, thats strange. Normally Jeeps turn over quite easily, and many catch fire all on their own too.......

Have you tried a mechanic? Soulnds like it could be a crank sensor, or other ignition related issue.

if you have to unlock manually you most likely have a immobilser problem as the ECU will not allow a start without a signal from the remote...a pain i know. try the batteries in the remote first(cheap option).i presume its a ZG?

ended up being crack in coil,buggered dizzy and one of the sensors,yep its a zg,door issues were from parking near mobile fone tower,frequency from them mess with jeeps,went well for around 2 thousand kms,now wont start again,this time wont even turn over

Had something very similar with my 97 TJ. Had 2 mechanics take a look at it, replaced all the plugs and wires, the entire distributor assembly, and then found the problem ended up being corroded connections. Cleaned up the connections and she started right up.
