I know removing this filter would be illegal but if i did what would i do with the sensors attatched to basically lie to them that nothing is wrong? Old man has to drive to Sydney in it on tuesday.

A sustained open road drive should burn it clean anyway.
I haven't driven a tiguan, but a 2.0 tdi audi I get to drive occasionally should have the same engine and it looks after itself. On a run you'll see the fuel consumption increase as it does a burn, then drops out again. Probably does it once per hour.

It would not run correctly at all. It will put the engine into a limp mode making it to where you can not go over 60ks an hour. limit the revs to about 3000rpm

It still gets up to speed just very slowly. Goin in to dealer in morning but i reckon they won't be able to fix quickly.

Just a quick little history on me. I worked for VW for 10+ years. For a while I was the technical trainer over all of Australia before I started working for Snap-on. Hence my nick name Dak Dak or V-Dub Dave.

What dealer are you going to? The tiguan as long as its under 58% blocked will only take about 45 mins to burn it self out once they get the 5051 connected to it and start the manual forced regeneration. If its over that it will take well over 2 hours if at all. If its under 20% it will only take about 5 mins. The engine will perform a self burn if it is under 17%. Anything over that it has to be hooked up to the 5051.

The tiguan is a 4 motion Passat under a different cover. The complete running gear is the same. But the exhaust has to go through a tighter area causing more restriction causing more problems for the DPF.

There are 4 sensors (not the O2/lambda sensors) 2 before 2 after the DPF. The 2 orangey red colored ones are the temp sensors, The other 2 are the before and after sensors they are what control the burn offs and all the wonderful things. If you unplug the after DPF sensor it will cause a check engine light but if you unscrew it from the DPF it will make the ECU think its is running clean. That may trick the ECU into making it run correctly. But in doing that VW may see it as tampering and void your warranty.

If VW tells you that the DPF needs to be replaced take the car to a Mate that has a workshop get him to remove the DPF and cut it open just above and below the fat part of the filter and burn it out using a yellow flame (not overly hot). This may take a while. The last one we did at head office took about 30 mins to burn out. Once it is clear weld it all back together and put it back in. BE SURE IS IS WELDED IN THE SAME WAY IT CAM OUT. With it all back together take it back to the dealer and get them to do a GFF (guided fault finding) test and basic settings and it will be like new.

If you have any problems with the dealer let me know. I still have a few friends on the dark side :cool:

Thanks for the info Dave, apparently its just a sensor the workshop said today. Its going to Klosters in newy again tomorrow to be fixed/ looked at again but atleast its driveable. Yeah its a tight turn out of the turbo straight into the filter box. These new cars go like a dream but you can't trust em not to spit the dummy for no reason. Sticking to my 80!

Often quite a few criteria have to be met for the regen to occur, stable throttle for more than a certain period of time at certain load and rpm range, if the conditions are not met for the period of the regen it will not complete. Emissions huh. Trap all the crap and then burn it out in one big hit, get's through a drive cycle test but you gotta wonder.
