Its no secret, .74mm @ tdc is the correct spec. You could go to .8 but it may be noisy. Fuel is what gives you the power.

how much advance? is 6' too much? I think standard is 3' but 6 lowered my egts and gave a good burn.

can someone give me a quick run through? I have fully rebuilt my engine, and am about to fit a gu pump and id like to do it myself, so u set engine to tdc, fit pump tool, set to .74 and rotate engine to see how far it drops off tdc?

The sepcs are for the turbo pumps .626mm for Factory Intercooled engines
.740mm for Non intercooled motors.

Another big factor when setting pump timing is what the injector pressure's are set at.

I've got an 89 GQ TD42 that i fitted a GU TD42 turbo pump to. Set to .65mm and it goes an absolute treat.

Never done the injectors on it either. I'd set it to .7 or .74 and run it and see what you think. I'd be disinclined to advance it too much unless it's being done by a diesel professional.
Mine was checked by a diesel pro after i'd fitted the pump and done the timing, all he did was wind the fuel up a little more than i had it and check it over and said it was awesome, could've got more power out, but he reckoned it'd be at the cost of fuel and shorter engine life.

Its interesting to read, he was a diesel professional. Did he just use the fuel screw? Or do a proper job on the compensator?
