1uzfe 5spd into lux gearbox mounting?

Post by -DE_LUX- »

G'day lads, i'm currently in the middle of my 1uzfe crown engine conversion into an 85 lux. Looking at how the r150 v6 4runner 5spd sits in there to it's original cross member which is bolted to the original chassis mounts, it seems to far forward . Which is ok, easy to move that. But it also seems to be too low. I hav'nt fitted the motor in yet, just the box and it seems real obvious to me.
I'm curious to see or hear what other 1uzfe conversion's others have done for correct box placement. Some pics would be handy too. It almost seems like a whole new crossmember could be made insted of mucking round with the old one. Any help would be greatly apreciated, cheers.

I'm using the standard crossmember with the G52 but, like you say, is too far forward. With the amount of fabrication and mucking involved in the swap around you are far better off making a custom crossmember which will also increase belly clearance rather than persevering with the stock member.

Also decide before you do it whether you want to run gear driven or chain driven transfer and make the member to suit. Gear drive will need an adapter.

A V6 gearbox cross member is around 30mm forward from the 4runner/surf (4cyl.) cross members. When I did my 1uz swap on my V6 4runner the cross member was modified to move the gearbox back approx 30mm.

From what I understand, a 1uz swap on a original 4 cyl hilux, 4runner or surf, wont require the gearbox to be moved.

Just throwing the tape measure round the engine bay with the pre fab mounts i have bought it seems as though the gearbox needs to go up 2'' in hight. I 'd really appreciate some pics if anyone has any of there set ups.
