1Fz-Fe, oil issue.

Post by Bundy79 »

Evening chaps and chappettes,

Been slowly developing a miss in the ole 80 series, 1fz-fe, got around today to changing the plugs and leads after it got really bad. I noticed when i pulled the 1 plug out and noticed a awesome large crack down the lead head pipe thingy (technical I know!). when I pulled the plug I noticed oil in the well and on the end of the plug. Now, I am unsure if it has just entered via the large crack in the lead head pipe thingy or if i have done a ring? It is not blowing smoke at all so not sure. Any tips someone can give to to check other than driving it tomorrow and pulling the #1 lead and plug off again?

Cheers

I noticed oil down there when i changed my leads too. I just blew it out and put new leads in. Haven't had a problem. No doubt your miss is due to the cracked lead. I think people leave them in there way past their use by date due to the cost of new leads.

Not too sure how oil gets in there. Looks like the top of the plug also acts as a seal between the rocker cover, and the pipes that run into the head where the plugs go. Just a guess though.

Oil is leaking past the spark plug tube seals in the bottom of the rocker cover. 6 separate seals usually replaced with the rocker cover gasket.

No idea what a lead head pipe thingy is. If that's a description for a plug lead, I'll have what he's having. :finger:
