advice on 80 series seat upgrades.

Post by howsie »

Looking at upgrading the front seats in my 80. Looking for comfort more than anything as I do make the occasional long trip and the standard seats are shite.

Was thinking of seats from a ba falcon as my seats in my old ba were quite comfy. Unfortunately is imagine this would require some modification to install and was wondering what others have put in their 80's and how much modification was required to do so.

I've just put buckets out of a GXL in mine and after 10 years with the the old standard seats it's sheer luxury.

I'd try something similar before buying or making mounting brackets etc

Did you start with the vinyl seats? As I already have cloth seats in mine and I thought gxl's had the same seats.

GXL front seats are the same, apart from the 3/4.

whatever I got they're not the same as I had before. Could be out of a 100 series (more than likely)

100series seats wont fit. There isnt enough room for the 100s seats, they are a lot wider. The brackets and frames are different widths too.

what ever seat you are interested in, check the width to see if they will fit.

I have modified a couple of seat bases in the past. it would be fairly simple in the 80series

Currently looking at au falcon xr8 seats. There are some dirt cheap ones going on ebay. Nothing pretty but they are intact and are nothing a seat cover can't fix. Would have love ba falcon seats but 400+ dollar seats in my cruiser would be a waste.
