dash lights wont turn off

Post by jbates58 »

hi all

after just replacing the engine mounts in my trol, now my dash lights are stuck onn, usualy they turn off when the car is started and its had a bit of a rev. the lights are: Water in fuel filter, restriction in airway, parkbrake light and the battery light. also, the battery is not charging at idle, or at revs. i have shecked all the fuses, in the cab and in the engine bay.

what gets me, is that i didnt touch any of the electrical system when doing this.

any ideas? as its my daily and i need it for work.

cheers

Check the wiring to the alternator, you may have upset it when jacking the engine to replace the mount.

all the alternator wiring seems intact, and i have an aftermarket charge and sense wiring that i installed, that runs from the alt directly to the battery, over the rockercover. and it all seems intact. also the external sense wire is piggybacked directly ovv the back of the alternator.

also, that wouldnt have any effect on the other lights on the dash not turning off would it?
cheers

ok, all fuses have been checked with my multimeter, and are all good. unless there is more fuses hidden in the cab or the engine bay. i have pulled off all aftermarket wiring from the battery, and returned it to factory spec, still no good.

help.

well i have pulled the alternator out, and will take it to the auto elec 2mozza for a te4st. im hoping that thats what the problem is. if not, then im guna have to get an auto lekky to look at it, its got me buggered. all the earths are in good condition, all the charge wire are making good contact, same for the sense wires. and the belt was plenty tight enough, as i didnt touch it before or whilts working on the car.

The wire that powers all of ya dash lights is a yellow/red from memory and comes from the fuse box but is powered by the ignition.
last time i checked the wires from the alt ( battery and excitor) have nothing to do with the dash lights and are wired into the ignition ( the excitor for the alt that is) so with all the funky gear goin on i would be checkin the round black box on the bottom of the ignition barrel.....mine shagged out real wierd too!. I could start the car then if i lightly touched the key with my finger the engine would stop until i took my finger off and then it would burst back into life again...i pissed it all off and put a switch and a push button there...no drama's since!

Hope this helps,

Steve.
