So what happened was i was driving in 5th gear, and when i went to shift down into 4th nothing happened and the gear stick is real loose and just moves around, mean while the car is stuck in 5th gear ( which was a pain to drive home as i had to ride the clutch to keep the car moving as i slowed for lights and corners etc). havent had a chance to pull the cover off and have a look.
any ideas what may be the problem???

pull the cover off, take the stick out and realign the selectors back to neutral, put your stick back in and off you go. I have a sierra that did the same thing so I found a spring that fit over the stick and put it between the washer on the ball of the stick and the cover to hold a bit of downward pressure. working well so far.

Sounds like it needs a new shifter bush, as they wear out you have to pull the gear lever out and clean the old bits out.than put the new bush in.Its a half hour job Go to your local suzuki dealer and ask the spare parts guy if you can get one.

Re: Jimny gear stick problem!!! car stuck in 5th gear
wasnt that simple at all. turns out what had happened is the screw that connects the rod that changes the gears unscrewed its self so the plastic bushes just fell out of place because of that.
to fix it i had to open up the compartment where this was, which required me to remove the prop shaft from the transmission to the transfer case off, this then made it possible to get to the 4 bolts that held this open. then from underneath the car realign the parts and re connect the transmission rod to the toggle thingy that the gear leaver sits in. once this was done, i could put the gear leaver back in place from inside the car and replace all the covers from the inside, then replace the prop shaft under neath the car and it was done.... all up took me close to two hours to finish.
how this screw with 20mm of thread had managed to come out is still a mystery to me...
