Re: hilux starting issue
If you got air on check it. Sounds stupid my mates compressor was on the way out. seized up cut the belt end of starting issue: also maybe your pos cable going to the starter from the battery is damaged.

Re: hilux starting issue
hi mate
thanks for the advice
the compressor for the air isint on the motor so thats out
i will change the lead to starter
is it posible it is the actual starter motor ?
could it be internal in the starter motor or the lead running from the solinoid on the starter to the the starter motor body
thanks its always done it but never this bad and once started and running it will crank normal
also smoke started coming from the fuse/relay box under the bonnet when cranking
thanks

Re: hilux starting issue
Check if your earth is connected from battery to alternator as when we did an engine swap forgot that lead and did very similar except smoke came out the regulator box.

Re: hilux starting issue
Possibly starter motor will need rebuild.
The auto elect. can do a test in the vehicle and will measure how many amps it draws while cranking.
If way above normal it will need a simple rebuild.

Re: hilux starting issue
hi mate
yer im thinking it is in the starter as the lead is very hot from afew cranks and the body of the starter is also very hot

Re: hilux starting issue
Hey bud, to test the starter motor, if u get someone to turn the key so its cranking, and hit the bottom of the starter with a hammer a few times, a good smack, it should start, or the wire running over the top of the starter could be loose, i dunno what it is but it could be the problem, happened with mine, same engine..
