My brother's VL Turbo been saved three times now by a simple kill switch for the fuel pump - last time he even go to beat up the low life who was trying to start it.

A few years back I heard a story about a nicely worked rotary. Was parked at the top of the drive with two other cars behind it, and the rotor button was removed. In the morning the other two cars were in the street, and the rotary was never seen again. As I see it, if a professional wants to steal your car, it'll go. All you can do is buy time to deter the "opportunists."

I agree, hopefully 99% of all car thefts are just oportunists.

going with that story, i guy up here in newy, trucked his car down to the drags at the creek (eastern creek). did a 9 or 10 something good, went home, was tired so he left the car on the truck, came out in the next day NO truck NO car.

not good, there is alot of lowlifes out there.

Does anyone have any reccommendations for security on a soft top?

This pops up all the time on the wrangler forums. Simply don't leave anything in there for them to see - therefore they won't be tempted to break-in. If they want your car, they'll take it. Just make sure it's insured.

I have a basic alarm and it works well on my softop to keep honest thieves honest. That's about it.

if ya got a soft top ya should get an alarm with a microwave sensor on it.

cross the beam and it will go off with a warning then the alarm.

has anyone had experience with the jaycar alarm kits, are they worth the money or not?

i haven't tried them, but i think jaycar try and do everything, so they don't really go into detail with one field, just like the add, with the 2 guys on the plane, talkin about tin food, " i think we sell seafood".

For the softops i hear the sensors are good. I have a basic current sensing unit which cost $200 fully installed and it works ok. I just have the feeling that with a microwave sensor it'll go off a lot - ya know false alarms. The alarm doesn't work too well with my doors off though but i've always been careful not to keep anything in there or at least out of view. I'm probably going to get an microwave sensor if i start to have any problems with thieves.

just looking at kill switches and stuff and was wondering if it would be easy enough to wire the airhorns up to the fuel soleniod switch? or maybe it if started up with the kill switch armed it would set off the horn?

hey well i use to have a rhino alarm , mounted in the motor side of fire wall, and then ran another siren in the cabin, (went got the loudest pizeo i could) yeah break in , by all means but you think u pinch my stereo hahaha, you had to block ya ears. or get out. either way my stereo stays in the car. worked well, may of had car brokern in to 3 or 4 times in 5 years , but never had anything taken except a ashtray of change once.

i used to leave the keys in the ignition, and half the time leave it running.




























would you steal a car that was sitting there with the engine on........good for when your at the shops, never left it running overnight or anything though

Someone did around the corner from where I live- complete with the child still in the baby seat in the back seat!!! Stupid woman had stopped to get cash out an ATM and left the car running with the aircon on.....

From all the bad things I have heard Solex locks are crap! My mates Laser had them and was stolen in Adelaide, the lock was left on the ground where he was parked. Other locks that just wear to the point that it takes you 5 mins just to open the door, with the key!

I run viper alarms in both my cars and the 4by has microwave sensor, you can't walk within a foot of the car of it warns you away, stay longer than 5 secs and off goes the alarm. Pain as these don't work in the rain (beeps constantly) but these can be zoned out for bad weather from the remote.

Alarms are useless unless someone takes notice, but safe at home at night thats for sure.

Alarms are good but you have to put the siren in the cab.

Don't think I'd hang around long to flog someone's UHF with the thing screamin in my ear!!!

hmmm, i think i should be getting one of these installed.

Where would i get a decent setup ie. microwave sensors (2), alarm w/ backup battery? and how much would they cost?

I'll probably put a kill swtich as an imoboliser.

Why do you want two microwave sensors? One will do the whole vehicle provide it is mounted in a sensible location (ie. central inside the cabin).

Look at the gear from www.dynamco.com.au - they make Cyclops alarm and microwaves. Should be able to pick up a full featured alarm with microwave detector for well under $300 DIY. That's with all black wiring, two point immobilisation, auto arming immobiliser; remote cetral locking capable, glass (audio type) breakage detector, battery backup siren- meets Australian Standards.
