hey guys think i might go a paj. you can get em pretty cheap as stock...
like the look of the swb/iO pajeros especially the early 2000 models and early 90 models





if i do buy one how many km's is reasonable to buy one second hand
in terms of a pajeros life span would it still be ok to buy one at these amounts of kms
ie. 150,000+
200,000+
250,000+

is there any difference in the engines between the swb and lwb?
if so what are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

i mean i would ideally like a turbo diesel which the normal pajero comes in, but finding a turbo diesel swb is hard and not cheap...
there is a 94 jtop diesel on carsales atm for $6500 which i am considering...
and a 91 swb v6 for $7000 which i am also considering...
do they even make the turbo diesel in a 6?

No, Mitsubishi haven't released a turbo diesel 6 yet.

iO is smaller and has much less available aftermarket. I had one as a loan car, and thought the interior was rather "underfinished".

The shorties have a better ramp-over and departure angle, less weight means (generally) more fun, although I don't know that it makes much difference to fuel economy.

The lwb has more aftermarket accessories more readily available (i.e. spring & shock kits are generally calibrated for the lwb, things like side steps, fuel tanks, cargo barriers, storage drawers are harder, if not impossible, to find for the shorty). Obviously, LWB has more space for touring &/or taking friends. With rear seats in my shorty the luggage space is almost non-existent - I'm not sure if my fridge will even fit, so even taking an extra couple on an offroad day trip becomes a headache.

If you're like me, and have no friends anyway, a shorty is great.

i think i like the appeal and general look of the shortys than the lwb's...
but i would like to use it for camping also. but i dont think thats til later down the track. im only 20 atm so ive still got a while to get a lwb if i decide to. i might go the swb for now...
and for 6500-7000 is a great price imo...
also what is a good milage range to look for. there are a few that id be keen on but they around 200,000-250-000kms on the clock. are they still ideal to look at or just dont bother?

Another thing is, do your mates have 4wds? If they dont they generally want to tag along on trips, so a swb might get a bit cramped

that was 1 of the main reasons i bought a shortie lol maybe im just a bad mate hehehe honestly though mate swb is great i have a gen1 shortie and i love it i had a 97 turbo diesel disco before and the 2 reasons i sold it were 1) to big and bulky in the bush looked like a d9 dozer 2) i wanted a stock car to modify the way i wanted it done that way i knew everyhting was done properly. so realy short or long is up to you id say shortie but thats my preference, im an ex mitsubishi mechanic and id say the 4cyl engine 4g54 2.6ltr is better than a v6 being that its more reliable but its thirsty the 2.0ltr in the io is good also but no aftermarket gear for the io. so id suggest a 2.6ltr on lpg that is stock as a rock as a starting point if your looking at spending 7g then you would some change if buying a stock rig then you can buy all the "toys and fun stuff" for it...

i know a bloke who recently sold a pretty stock gu as he wanted something that was all done and modded so he bought a gq with 36s winch comp bar lockers 6" lift ect ect anyway when i seen the car i nearly fell over it was f#!ked everthing was loose noisey or trashed he since has replced all the suspension rewired half of it the winch dont work and he went to drive to qld from vic and made it 100k to seymour and she died so the point is unless the mods are done properly its better to do it yourself by a stockie then you know its 100%

thanks for the info. lookin at the iO and ive found a suspension lift for it which will come in handy. and then i just want to put some mud tyres on it and that is pretty well all i want. apart from a few little extras like a a couple more drivng lights as i am constantly heading out bush or on pretty dark and secluded roads coz of where i live and probly a uhf radio...
