GU td42 getting hot

How you going.
I have an 05 td42 that my water temp has gotten quite hot a few times.
Only when given a fairly hard time. At each time i had atleast one other patrol with me doing the same work with no probs.
I have had my cooling system checked and they said all is fine.
I have had someone tell me possibley my injectors may be at fault? But that was just a passing conversation, not actually looking at my engine.
Can anyone give any info or suggestions.

When you say they checked your cooling system, what did they actually do.

When you say hot, what do you mean? Cooked it and had to pull over, or hot on the factory temp gauge. You will find that the gauge doesn't accurately reflect the temp of the engine. I have the same issue with the air con cutting out due to a sensor that I have(now disconnected so I stay cool). unless it is getting right up I wouldn't be concerned.

Check your cluth fan. Their prone to failing and if their not working you will have all sorts of heating issues. Also the radiator might be due for an internal clean.

It may be worth running an engine de-sludge, you will be amazed at the goop that comes out - even from a well maintained engine.
The oil does do some of the cooling and it it is not properly able to do this the actual cooling system has to pick up the load.

Probably a silly reply, but have you given the fins in your radiator a good clean out? You would be surprised at the amount of grass, grass seeds, insects, dirst etc that builds up over time, my trol was actually overheatng for the same reason

Just realised who you are "roblux" Thought you disappeared off the interweb.

I was under the impression the cooling system "check" you had involved a faulty thermostat which seemed to solve your problem. Obviously not though as that was nearly 12 months ago.

For others that have asked the question...on a trip to fraser towing a fiberglass boat along a rapidly diminishing beach the temp gauge went off the radar (I know they are inaccurate) but never blew up or cooked itself. When we noticed, brought the vehicle to a stop and kept the revs up with the heater on to bring it back to "normal". Usually a couple mins. This happened several times on the one trip.

As for suggestions, all the above are great to look into if you havent already mate. There unfortunately is no correct answer, it could be a combination of all of them. The viscous fan definitely needs to be looked at (after truck has been driven at operating temp, pop the bonnet and shut the engine down...the viscous fan should stop with the motor). And look into getting your radiator professionally cleaned. As I said to you, mine was only $70 and it looked like a brand new one, so I reckon it did a great job.
