new toy (hilux)

Post by ranover »

hey guys

just picked up a 1990 hilux from a friend who i used to 4b with a bit when i had my blue rangie. his truck was a beast and when i heard he was letting her go i had to get her as i have been in withdrawls from real 4bing for a while.

this is what shes got
  • 2.8 diesel with extractors and 3 inch exhaust
    locked f+r ARB
    dual transfers
32 inch BFG muddies near new
    custom rear tray
    snorkel
    battle scars
he also told me there is another hilux i can get a drop box from for the front and long travel rear suspension. he also has some 36 inch simex for it also for a good price

the car was taken off the road due to defects in Qld but i am looking to see what it needs for NSW. otherwise she will be turned into a truggy for play and some comps.

as i was a rover man and still am ive always liked the hilux as there a tough rig but this means i dont know the pros and cons which im sure to find out soon.

i would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for this truck and i will keep pics coming

had a play today with it

ripped of gay bar if anyone wants it let me know

ripped out the seats and gave it a good scrub. brother inlaw bought a sweet chopped cruiser and is donating the seats to me. he also has a set of 35 MTZ but im thinking the simex 36 would be better.

other then that went and flexed it up a bit to see what she could do and will post pics soon but it was good.

the only other things that need a look at are
body vibrates a bit when in idle
no carpet or insulation in doors but as thinking of getting some rubber matting
needs a paint job
service all oils
if i get the 36 tyres i will sell the 32 muddies on it now
start bending up and welding exo cage

pics coming it is happening also any suggestions im all ears

Sounds like fun !

Do ya reckon it has enough power with the stock diesel ? I know last time i drove one it nearly turned and ran the other way at the sight of a hill

heres some more pics of it now. not much just got rid of the bar and tidyed up a bit.

been doing some research and there some good info here.

things i want now are
- track bar for the back bot sure if i should make it or buy one
- updated CVs or i have a dana 44 with a locker i could chuck in or sell for cvs
- exo roll cage
- and i have a the choice of 36 simex ET or 35 MTZ and im not sure which one i like the simex as its more comp but i cant decide
- paint job missus wants to paint it hot pink but not to keen  i was thinking canary yellow or something

it should be pretty capable and a fun truck for comps and to share with friends.

pic time
