After cracking the head again on my motor (TB42E) I have decided to slap another one together as my current bottom end doesn't sound the best.
I now have a low km bottom end and a new (reco) head. Besides new belts, gaskets and maybe water pump what else do you think i should do to this engine. I don't mind spending a few $$ as it hasn't cost me much and i may decide to keep the patrol for longer than planned. It will be run on LPG 95% of the time

My suggestion would be to scrap the nissan motor and fit a BA or BF engine into it like i did. They are cheap to buy with low k's, and the convervsion should cost less than 3K if you do it yourself. I could never bring myself to put another TB engine into a patrol, if the engine died.

What is the very bottom end like on that motor. I check the fuel consumption everytime i put fuel in it. I always sit on 110 - 120 km/hr (ask my wife about it) and it's really stable at 18.0 - 19 Litres/100
When i do sit on 100 it has regularly been less than 17.0 l/100. Best so far 16.0. Very consistent really. Still not cheap on petrol to run, but LPG is going back on soon and at 60c/L it will be cheap to run.
