Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
Repacked my front wheel bearings last night and noticed one side was rather shagged so looking into replacing it.
Was wondering if anyone had just got their wheel bearings from a bearing shop instead of buying a kit from sepco or poopercheap? i understand if you buy a kit you get all the seals and stuff but i've got spares from a hub seal kit so don't need them.
If i give the bearing shop all the numbers off the bearing and even take it down and match it up surely it'd be just the same as buying a kit right? and probably cheaper, which is the main purpose of the exercise.
Any advice or suggestions welcome.
Thanks!

Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
just spoke to the guys at Statewide Bearings at Virginia.
Ordered the following -
Inner bearing set - P/N HR33110J / HR33110JA $47.50 + GST
Outer Bearing set - P/N LM501310 / LM501349 $28.66 + GST
Total - $76.16 ($84 including GST)
That's not including seals but i got a hub seal kit for $120 from Burson so got all my seals right there!
dunno if a mod wants to put this is the bible section for any future reference but thought there might be a few people curious on here.
Happy days!

Mark.

Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
Yeah cheers mate.
I've bought them from sepco previously but just thought to myself there had to be a cheaper way to get them when you pay well over $100 there!

Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
Was that to service one wheel or both?
Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
Just one side mate.
In heindsight i reckon it'd be possible to shop around and get a better price then that. But unfortunatly didn't have that much spare time.

Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
I akways get my bearings from bearing suppliers. you usually don't need to search for the numbers.
just walk in and say i need wheel bearings for a such and such car and they look it up.
seals too - $2 instead of $15 - what ever from a dealer or reseller.

Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
I just replaced a front bearing in mine on the weekend. Needed one there and then, paid $81 from Repco which I thought was dear. But seems to be alright.
Just paid for new rear bearings today!!!

Re: Getting wheel bearings from bearing shops
Yeah well unfortunately That seems to be where I'm headed now too. Does anyone know the part numbers for a rear wheel bearing kit?
