Hi gents, I have a HZJ75 with an 80 series rear diff. I decided to strip it all down and weld on some leaf perches and it's been running great for two years now. The main reason was for the wider track and disc brake rear end. In order to have a matching track on the front, I'm running 3" wheel spacers. Recently, I have been really considering a spring over conversion. That got me thinking. Why cant I do a front coil conversion instead? I was considering getting hold of a complete 80 front end and welding the dop boxes, shock towers and brackets to the chassis of the 75. I think it would be easier and more flexible than leaves.
Thats why I thould I would ask you clever blokes what you think. Do you know if the chassis dimensions on a later 76 or 78 are similar so I can just copy them.
Has anyone done one before and is it worth it?

75/78/79 Chassis' are the same at the front the whole way through so good possibility the suspension mounts are too. Pm Z()ltan he should be able to fill you in. Using the whole 80 series axles with coils etc would definately be the right way to go.

Yeah. My thing has the flex of a house brick at the moment and the leaf mounts get me hung up on rocks all the time. Other than that, my old troopie has never let me down after all these years. I'm thinking of buying a write off 80 series from the auctions so I can bludge heaps of parts from it. I never knew how much wider an 80 was to a 75 but it looks tuff with the tyres sticking out past the body an extra 3 inces.

Yeah thanks mate. I just checked his page. He has done an awesome job. He has given me alot of answers. I'm very keen to do it now. No turning back.

Yep 80 series diffs, with 80 series mounts grafted in on to the chassis. Longer than stock arms though.Jonno308 wrote:OHhhhhhhh yeah!!
It's a better ride than leaves for sure, and it's easy to change spring rates. But getting the leaf front to work in a 75 series really isn't all that hard and you really have to ask yourself if the effort is worth the cost.
I actually live not that far from you if you want to have a crawl around and look at the set up.

I wanted to do a spring over but thought about cutting and re-welding the knuckles would be just as much as a stuff around, so that's why i figured it would be just as difficult to do coils but with more benefits.
