Late series GQ Heater box To early GQ/Maverick

Post by DA22LE »

Does anyone know if this can be done. I need to change my core as it's leaking, and the GQ's after 92 use same one as GU, and no heater tap.......strange???

Only option to keep is to have one custom made, which is what i think i will be doing....depending on price....Other option is to fit a falcon type tap outside the firewall, as there is no room behind.......How does the temp get regulated with out a tap on GU's???

Cheers

Why not buy a new heater core to suit? or a new or used heater box?
GU's and just about every other car these days don't use heater taps. They have an air mix door inside the heater box which diverts incomming air into/ away from the heater core.

GU's do have a heater tap. I can guarantee at least series 1 GU's do and it's a plastic item on the inlet to heater core. I think I have photos on my computer somewhere as I had to bend the alloy pipes when I did the engine conversion. The cable that moves the air flap also rotates the water cutoff valve.

Sounds like my heater core, as it's plastic and connects to the flap exacly the same as you describe.

I am getting a new GQ/Maverick core and will connect up a tap of some sort......

Just found the thread i was looking for. It does look like later model GU's, don't have a heater tap fitted. My heater core is almost the same as the one below, but has a plastic water tap on the top alloy pipe.
