SAS Hilux QLD ?

Post by tdpete »

Hey guys,

Got a couple of questions in regards to SAS ing a hilux in Queensland
I'm currently toying with the idea. BUT not sold on it completely yet got a few reservations

Now I have a 2003 model dual cab sr5 turbo diesel daily driver. Like the truck not really interested in selling or upgrading thought about a land cruiser but don't want to jump to a bigger 4x4 or go back into debt not interested in going back to a older model hilux.

This hilux also has air bags (in the dash and the steering wheel) and ABS fitted Standard. Push button 4x4 the usual stuff

I need to know if a hilux with abs can be SAS'ed and legal in Qld through mod plates and engineering

Does having airbag's cause a problem
Does having the abs cause a problem

What will the on road handling be like compared to a LN106 solid axle obviously completely different to the IFS model but will it perform like an LN106 or some what better I was considering the 3" ifs eliminator kit and matching rear.

Insurance wise is it possible to get insurance with this conversion obviously depending on what company you go with have the people who have done the conversion previously had issues with the insurance side of it

All feed back appreciated I'm just gathering information at the moment and yes i have read pretty much all SAS threads
Cheers pete

Get in touch with Buddy from Buds Customs, PM him on here,(Bubs).
He is the man behind Parrs new model Lux overhaul(build thread in the members section).
Or have a chat to the guys at Monster Rides, they have IFS lift kits for the new Luxes sorted.

Either will be able to point you in a good direction.

Cheers for that info dudelux I knew buds custom's is the one to talk to and can do the conversions I haven't phoned him in regards to it as yet, I appreciate he is probably a busy man. so I thought I would gather as much info as possible before making the phone call
Forgot to mention mine is a torsion bar front end so not sure if the monster ride guys are able to help me out as the new lux's run a coil over front if I'm correct.

keep the info coming.

could just sell yours and find a decent ln106 and have change to mod after selling yours theres plenty around, factor in the costs of the SAS and the price of a decent ln106 and weigh it all up.

Off the top of my head i cant recall what year they changed transfer to passenger side drop,if yours is passenger side drop it makes things more difficult and more costly.IIRC it was around 03-04 but im not 100%

Great in put guys some of them have been helpful some have missed the point but never the less, all good

Have many people done the SAS conversion in QLD as looking through most of the threads heaps seem to be south of the QLD border obviously the engineering side of things is different to the QLD transport idea's got to love the smart state..

The main reason I have gone along this line of thinking is I actually brought a LN106 single cab a couple of months ago with the intention of doin heaps to it but I also don't want to waste money going and buying up parts to put on an old truck

Hence my reason for seeing if its possible for me to do the SAS conversion to the 03 I was trying to consolidate things a little before I go investing a packet into an old truck.. I could spend a similar amount on my newer one and end up having a better 4x4 in the long run

Dose any one know more detail about the abs and airbags with the SAS conversion.

My thoughs are if you are doing a SAS to a newer truck, go and talk to Buddy as mentioned earlier, but if doing an older leaf sprung rig F&R there are ways to get the leaves to work better for less than a SAS.
Buddy has already worked a way around the ABS stuff ;)

Unless I missunderstand what your asking, all your answers have been posted above :?
