Dihatsu or Suzuki

Hi

I am looking at buying either a Dihatsu Rocky or a Suzuki Seira to build up as a weekend play toy. Lifted, big tyres (35's or or 37's) and chop the end off to turn into a ute with a tube tray. May change over to coils all round later on..It is not going to be in comps just a toy... My question is which one to choose from, which one is better pros and cons... Just after some info not a argument... Any info would be great...

Having owned a fairly heavily modified Daihatsu Rocky, I would have to vote for the Suzuki, UNLESS you like manufacturing and modifying your own gear. The isnt too much off the shelf in the way of accessories for a Rocky, as opposed to a Suzi. The thing the Rocky does have over a Suzi is power to weight ratio. Hard to go past an intercooled Turbo 2.8 in a relitively light shell.

I love(d) my rocky, was awesome offroad. But when its all said and done I'm glad I moved on to something more common.

Are you being serious? Just in case you are the coilys had horrible geometry and are generally a PITA to modify. Not to mention given the amount of $$ he's going to have to spend to get 37s under it and chop the back off, he's way better off finding the cheapest shitter he can find and spending his money on mods...



Honestly, for the amount of work you're looking at doing it won't really make a difference which model you get, just go with whichever's cheaper and spend the rest on the parts you'll need. I'd probably go the Daihatsu with TD motor and throw some 60s diffs, geared lux case, rear lux springs all around and cut the guards like they stole yo cigarettes.



This is all assuming you're competent with the fab tools and realise how much of a bastard it is to fit big tyres under a little truck without lifting it a gazillion inches into the air and ghaying it up. If you're looking for purely bolt on mods to fit 35s then i wouldn't be starting with either of the vehicles you mentioned. Get a GQ and call it good. If you're down to cut, grind and weld and make your neighbours and girlfriend/wife hate you then go for gold.

If you're under 18,and joined this forum cause you heard it was hectic, buy a zook and drive it unmodded for at least 6 months. Trust me.

I didnt see you were in Blackwater, so am I. What type of plaything are you after, registerable or not?

If your not after something registerable, so basically a purely off road plaything, I have a SWB Rocky chassis, minus transfer case, that you can have for nothing. That is, chassis, 2.8 diesel, gearbox, front and rear diffs, tailshafts, and a whole heap of removable panels. The cab is also there, cut down witht he intention to make a SWB ute, but not carried through with die to it being in fairly poor nick, full of rust, but might suit an off road toy. Its in Gladstone. I want to be rid of it. Its beyond road registering, but might do you. PM me if your interested, as I am also in Blackwater.

Easy to lift 2 " other then that nothing is easy or cheap for a coily
