gt2860 = 140hp

Post by little timmy »

I have not long put a gt 2860 turbo on my 04 patrol ute, it has the .64 hot side on and made round the 140 hp at the wheels on 35's. It was an inprovment from the standard turbo but does not seem to pull as hard as others that i have been in and doen't even sound anything alike. I got a straight through exhaust hiflow air cleaner bigger injectors and pump done would just like to know if that power sounds about right for that outfit. Runs around 350 to 400 egts at 100 on high way running 16psi boost at full load.

.64 in which inlet configuration t25 or t3?

Also, what type of intercooling do you have?

140hp @ 16psi on 35's is pretty decent. Where are the AFR's through the dyno run?

Sounds like a STD Garret 2860dp to me !!

You also mention that is has bigger injectors??

Fuel pump been done?? 11/12 mm cc of fuel???

Egt's you are referring to are they pre or post turbo ??

Let's get all the info before we make a judgement

Im getting 130 at the wheels on 35s with dts kit running 14 psi unintercooled standard pump and injectors so should be more gains to be had with that set up

Its a t 25 with a standard intercooler wat are the afr's on the dyno sheet i have it here with me. it has a 12ml plunger i am lead to believe its wat i asked for when i got the pump down 2,3 years ago and the egts are post turbo in the dump pipe if no body thinks i can get any more i wont bother. It just don't seem to have that go like a few of my mates. some blokes wreckon they got 140 kw at treads with same turbo are they pulling my dick or wat...

I have highlighted your issue.

You AFR will be super rich with lowish boost and next to no intercooling.

Out of a standard GUTD42T pump, 140kw atw on 35's is quite easily achieveable letalone an upgraded pump.

Maybe post a pic of the dyno graph, only interested in the AFR graph, not power.

Mate 16psi is not enough boost to burn the fuel required to make 130RwKw on 35's! 120cc of fuel should be sufficient to make all the power you require I would suggest, but as someone else has already stated , intercooling efficiency sounds a little poor!

Text the sheet to 0439900921 also and I will have a look as well.

Post it up if you can please UGOTNUFN?

As for intercooling. Water to air is the ducks guts for 4x4 applications unless your doing high speed kind of racing?
Down side is the cost.
Yes there is cheap (frozen boost/barrel type) which are marginally better, then there is proper kits which are on average 2-3X the amount.

If nothing else, use a proper inlet manifold that distributes the air to all cylinders equally.

Yes. It doesnt have to be custom though. Anything that opens the manifold up for even flow will be a huge advantage to any other setup using the standard manifold.

Top line would be boost. Cant see the scale due to water or what ever was spilt on it though.

My GQ was tuned at Gympie as well, 250,000ks, stock pump just a rebuild (by gympie diesel & dyno) and a 28/60 on my own custom manifold and no intercooler.
135hp on 11 psi, with next to no smoke out the pipe, i was really surprised, its such a nice clean tune.
pretty sure mine in a .86 rear housing though, as he told me there was two options and one runs out of puff too quick but good for towing a van etc, i went the bigger one. t3 front

Yeah mine has the .64 housing and blows a fair bit of smoke untill it builds boost. Do you find it laggy at all i went the smaller one because my engine has less compression then yours as it is factory turbo and i wanted it to get up and go as early as possible. where abouts are you from mate.

Do you realy need a 2860 to make this power ????

Without sounding like an ass, my GQ with a ht18 and GQ pump (modded) makes just shy of 140 rwhp on 33's with 4.3 diff gears with post turbo EGT's of under 450c.

Depends how much boost and fuel you were running.
The 28/60 will do it easily with alot more boost available lower in the rev range over the ht.

But no, its not 100% necessary to have a 2860 to do it.

Running no more than 14lbs and from memory (its been a few months since I saw the flow figures for the pump) 88cc's max fuel...... It pulls cleanly to 3600rpm and doesn't drop off suddenly after that.

i dont find it laggy at all, compression might do that i spose, not sure, i find it great to drive, it whistles pretty hard as soon as you load it.
to answer the other guy, as for the 2860, sure other turbos will make the same power, but its the torque curve that i care about. ball bearing all the way. my friends big denco kitmakes more power than mine, but i guarantee my engine will last longer as his doesnt do much under 2500
rpm

I think compression would have alot to do with it how mine is now you don't really feel the turbo kick in it is just consistent pull. When you say it whistles what do you mean out the exhaust or induction because mine is pretty loud out the exhaust but when you get right under it you can not even hear it...And you are right the torque is what counts in 4wding. Is yours hiflowed or anything???

not hiflowed, i dont really feel it "kick in" as such, by the whistle i mean you can hear it spinning at a decent speed at idle, then as soon as i take off i get boost without a big flat spot or what i consider to be lag. the power is a little slow coming on shifting into 3rd, but i just think thats bigger tires and stock gearing
in comparison i have had turbo petrol motors (12 sec gemini) where the turbo doesnt even spin at idle, but at about 3 grand it breaks traction all over the road just coming onto boost.
same deal with the exhaust note, mine whistles really loud just putting around ("3 stainless no muffs) then if you boot it, the exhaust just roars and the whistle moves to my snorkle (also 3" stainless) wich faces backwards over the passenger window.

what rpms are you getting your peak 140hp at?

It sounds pretty similar to mine then at an idle mine whistles out the exhaust yours probably louder with the stainless as mine is mild steel no muffs and full length. I Dont find mine laggy in third but it really makes that sucking noise in the snorkle. It builds the power at around 2500 to 3000 it has its most pull.
