I had a MAF die on my nissan work car the other week. It dropped to 1v output (a shade below normal idle) and caused the engine to run with absolutely no power and an intermittent CEL. You'd need one to die in such a way that the voltage reading stayed high, but wasn't at the full 5v. I think that's quite unlikely.
So the wastegated ZD30 engines don't run a MAF?

Re: SAFE 3.0L TD ?
sorry to go off topic but what about the 2.8 motor in the earlier GU's and GQ's? I have a 4.2 and it's getting a bit dull putting in a quarter of my pay each week for fuel.....have been thinking I could handle less power if it came with less fuel bills. I know you are paying 6 cyl rego with them also.
I've got a WEAPON OF MOSS DETRUCTION
Re: SAFE 3.0L TD ?
Stick to the 4.2 mate or buy a Corolla
