I have just started stripping my engine for rebuild, was wondering if anyone has tried to stroke these engines by regrinding the crank to give it more through?
Also has anyone got expierence with shot peening and nitriding there crankshafts and has anyone used a different oil pump?

I have just been talking to a mate who used to grind crankshafts for a living.
He said you would have to get a custom crank made to achieve that sort of extra stroke, then obviously custom rods, balance $$$$$.
Need someone to win lotto to get a kit started, would be a torque monster if stroked to 5Ltr.
Anyone know who makes custom cranks?

try crank shaft rebuilders. http://www.crankshaftrebuilders.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Done one many years ago for a safari race car. gq patrol. tb42 stroked it out to about 4.8l.

I'm not sure mate. You would be better off ringing them. If you get stuck I know the owner of this engine and he has all of the specs, so I could ask him.

The current owner didn't build the engine mate . The previous owner had it built.
when i see the current owner I'll ask for further info, but if you are keen I would go straight to crankshaft re builders. They may have improved the machining process they previously used as this engine was done many years ago.

Stroker kit TD42 4.45 litre finished which includes: stroker crank, custom made forged connecting rods/pistons/piston pins.
Bore I kept STD boe (96 mm) due to heat tranfer capacity and block strenght when running hi boost. Volume went fom 4.2 --> 4.45 litres
Crank is stroked, balanced, knife edged, shotpeened, chamfered, micro polished etc. Knife edging will give the fastest crank accelaration in the 3000-6000 rpm range. Rember TD42 have a 10 litre oilcapacity. Good thing for reducing parasitic drag due to engine oil.
Stroke increase from 96 mm --> 102 mm. This is on my analyses and measurement without hitting the rods to the block I hope.
Increase in stroke will give tremandous torque on a diesel.
Compression ratio remains 22:1 and rocker ratio will 1.8 roller. Piston is machined for more valve lift. Also extra oildriling for more oil to the piston pins and re-inforced piston top for hi boost.
Connecting rods are forged H-beam with ARP hi strengt bolts.
Gudgeon Pin (psiton pin) are custom made from very strong TOOL STEEL.

So the stroker kit would use a TB48 crank would it?
TD42 96mm stroke.
TB48 102mm stroke.
If you had the journal sizes you could check whether it would fit.
I remember a few years ago that John Hedrics used a TD42 crank and rods in a TB42 that he ran in the safari GQ for a couple of years.
You would then need a shorter set or rods by 6mm and could then use the standard pistons.
You could maybe use the Brian crower strocker rods as they are for a 108mm strock TB48, 6mm difference.
That would just depend on wether they use standard compression height pistons or not and if the deck heights of the 2 blocks were the same.
The little end of the rods would need a bit of work but anything is possible.
If you could get the bore spacings, journal sizes of each crank, the block height of the TD42 as the TB48 is 10.059" etc you would soon see if it would all fit together.
Brings back thoughts of years ago playing the with old red six's with ford cranks, hemi/nissan rods etc, are the good old days.
Just my ponderings.

Done a little digging around and from what I can find the TB48 crank should fit.
Whether its strong enough or not is another question.
I guess you could also use the Brian Crower 108mm stroke crank too if there was enough clearance.
You could then just send Carrillo or whoever you want to use the details and they would then make you a set of rods.
Rods would need to be 5.94" but you would have to work out the compression by either using a slightly shorter rod( not ideal),Thicker head gasket, or bigger reliefs in the pistons to bring the compression back down to your desired ratio.
96x102mm= 4.428 litres
96x108mm= 4.688 litres

Well I got some prices back from our engineers on the parts we have had made for us to suit the TD42 race truck's.
No stroker bits sorry, just stronger and lighter components retaining the 4.2 Capacity.
4340 Billet Steel Crank - Knife Edged/ShotPeened/balanced etc.. all the good bits $3K
4340 Billet steel Rods - Balanced/sp etc.. $1K for the set
Pistons, still waiting on price and stress test results.
Only down side is if we go ahead with more orders, its in batches of 10.

After doing a quick calc on the basics of the stroker kit.
Piston speed at 4000rpm is 2680ft/min & 5500rpm 3670ft/min.
With a stock td42 the speed @ 4000rpm is 2520ft/min & 5500rpm is 3465ft/min
So its all still pretty tame until you take into account the weight of the huge pistons and rods. The piston G's will be pretty huge.
After doing a quick calc on the basics of the stroker kit.
