Is it possible to fit low pinion to GQ front diff?

Post by GURU »

G'day,

ok, what I have is GQ's front and rear in my front engined buggy I'm building. currently I have a stock GQ front housing with an ARB locker, what I want to do is fit a low pionion centre and then run MQ swivels backwards to make a semi high steer setup behind the housing.

From what I have read the MQ rear diffs fit into the housing with some slight mods? will my air locker fit the MQ?

I assume I can't run the reverse cut gears in the low pinion carrier, will I lose much strength with the change?

I had an 31spline mq rear centre with arb locker in a gq leaf housing with mq knuckles and kaos hi-steer. I had too drill out 4 new holes ( either side of the c/w top and bottom) there's pics in my build thread.

What you can do it just grab a standard rear third member (GQ or GU) which is low pinion, then fit your front locker and re-use the rear gears (they will run in reverse) it will fit straight in.

The reason I know that,
I have just fitted a front high-pinion centre into the rear of my GU, also using front gears (run reverse) which works fine and has been done many times.

The third members will swap over front-to-back no problems and the lockers will also fit front or rear, you do have to stick with the gears meant for the centre you're using.

As for other options (MQ etc.) I don't know sorry.

Hope this helps.

I didn't check where you are but I'm in Sydney and have a low-pinion third member sitting here.

GQ Leaf diffs are low pinion with the sane bolt pattern as high pinion. So that could be another option. I have 3 low pinion GQ Centres if your keen.
