Failed speedo, 05 GU Patrol

Post by BundyRumandCoke »

The speedo has failed on my 05 GU Patrol. It has also stopped the odometer, (which is the really important one), the trip meters, and the cruise control.

I have already had the speedo sender unit out of the rear of the transfer case, and no stripped gear there, or the drive gear inside the transfer case (as best as I could see through the sender hole) seems OK. I have put an electric drill onto the drive gear and spun it up to see if the speedo moves- no go, so I assume its electrics.

Any ideas anyone? I doubt its a fuse- I admit I havent gone looking but everything else on the dash works- the odometer still shows the latest mileage. It just died whilst travelling, one minute it was working, the next time I looked, it wasnt.

I can get away without the speedo, using a GPS for a speedo, no cruise control is a PITA, but I can also work without that, but my odometer is essential, as I have to declare my mileage each time I fuel up, for my lease.

Mate I have the same problem with my 2000 GU ute. While I'm driving I loose speedo, odomitor, tacho, temp, and fuel gauges all at once. I've checked the back of the dash cluster for any loose connections but everything looks fine. On hot days being parked in the sun the dash is off when I start and will usually stay off till the next day!

Help me I need a solution

Cheers
Mick
