Looking for 79 series diff info

Hey guys im looking at picking up a 79 series diff this weekend to do a front coil swap in my 85 hilux.

Is there an easyish way to convert it to a 6 stud pattern? I have heard i may be able to swap in 80 series hubs?

Do the 79 series have the same wheel mounting surface length as an IFS lux?

And is there any toyota factory diff with 4.88s that will bolt in?

There was a thread on this recently where i asked the exact same question. It's here in gen tech somewhere. short answer is yes, you can put 80 series stuff on there. You'll need to change from the stub/rotor assembly outwards. Remember that an 80 has 16" rims and calipers after 91' ish onwards so this may not suit your hilux stuff. Earlier 80's had 15 inch gear.

Yeah tried searching but it wont let me put in just "79"

if i put in "79 series" i get 60,80,100etc series results and theres alot of crap.

Anyway Is it just the stubs and rotors that i need to swap out or do i need to swap out the cv's and axels, diff with it?

Ive searched for the 4.88 diff gears too but all i can find is aftermarket.

the 79 uses the same swivel hub as a 80x,100x,78x vehicle. The differences are the inner axle length (wider track width between vehicles) and the hub/rotor assembly has a different patter from 100 series onwards (5 stud on 16 inch rims). The early 80 series uses 15 inch rotors/calipers/rims as i mentioned earlier and all other models used 16 inch rims. The mounting ears on the swivel hub for the calipers are in the same location but i'm not sure how the calipers themselves vary. So you should use calipers from the same vehicle as you get the bearing hub and rotor. I don't know if the stub/bearing mounts are the same, but the stub to swivel hub pattern is the same so you should probably just use the stub/rotor/bearinghub/calipers from one complete vehicle. Although i am interested to know if the stub axles are all the same. If you use the 80 series hub and rotors you will have to use rims and the freewheeling hubs/drive flanges from that vehicle as the 105/78/79 went to a different hub mount diameter and also went to M10 studs instead of the M8 studs in the 80 series. CV outer axle is identical across the range i believe.

To be honest, i'd say for all the hassle and cost of buying bits, just sell the rims/tyres you have, and with what you're saving in bits and pieces cost put them towards rims for the new axles as they are standard. Put a 79 axle in the back so you get disc brakes all round and a full float rear, with matching wms to the front axle instead of the poxy hilux rear axle. this way you get M10 drive studs all round which is a weak point on the 80 series gear.

The diff im looking at is mising a hub on one side anyway apparently so i need to source parts for that so it might aswell be 80's stuff.

And ive allready done a 4runner rear coil conversion in the back so im keen to leave that as is if i can.

I havent been able to find stuff all info on a 79series front end into a hilux so i might do a write up once ive got all my shit together.
