Solid army tyres
I have never had anything to do with them at all. A few days ago a mate of mine gave me a set of 4 brand new solid tires. What are they good for? Can they be put on a normal rim or only split rims?

They're good for when you're being shot at, like in Western Sydney. Solid tyres don't deflate. Plus tyre engineers don't care if grunts suffer from the lack of suspension from tyres.

A lot of forklifts have solids. You wont get them onto normal rims, and probably not split rims either. Forklift rims are in 2 halves, that are bolted together.
Mud makes excellent toothpaste.

They are already on a set of 6 stud split rims. The were on a mine troopy that never made it to the pit. They are only 20 ks old (3 years in a shed) they are worth over $500 each. They are more aggressive and deaper tread then your run of the mill muddy. they have tread blocks that are over 15mm deap. They are HEAVEY bastards, they weigh more then my 39s on beedlocked rims. They are 7.50/16 they measure 33.5" tall and 7" wide.

What do you think they would be good for?
My MTZ's had 18mm tread depth when new and you can deflated them to 10-12psi for extra traction when needed. Good luck getting a solid tyre to bag out for increased foot print

Yeah but imagine a burnout that could go for 3 hours until you only had a low profile vegemite strip left on the rim. Actually if you don't want them i'll buy them off you for that very purpose.

I was under the impression that they were mainly used for mud instead of bagging out and getting a wide as possible footprint they would cut into the mud to the hard stuff underneath. But I may be wrong. It doesn't really make sense that they would be used for anything else though as more traction is desirable.

I still say chuck em on and light em up. With that much rotating mass they'd be hard to get started but once they did the inertia would make 3rd gear burnouts quite easy
Imagine sitting there lighting them up for twenty minutes solid and still not having them burst

they'd be awesome for pro roo shooters or the like who are driving through paddocks all night staking tyres. keen for a pic.
As for bar treads I have a mate who swears by them. very sensitive to psi versus grip but once you work that out they'll keep up with most tyres until your dragging diffs.

Pic of the tyres in question. Tread looks exactly like the Doublestar 7.50 x 16 rag tyres I used to have on my hj 47 troopy. But bloody hell these solid tyres are heavy!
