Dash Lights stopped working

Post by MAX1MVS »

I installed a new JVC stereo in my 94 LS and now when I turn on the headlights, I have no dash lights. Any ideas as to why this may be happening?

Whip the stereo out again and check the big plugs in behind where the stereo goes.

Do your park lights still work?

What about your taillights...?

Have you checked the FUSES?????

The only lights that do not work are the instrument cluster, to my knowledge...I will double check that after work. I did check the fuses under the dash. When the headlights are off I have my Gear indicator, 4wd indicator lights, but as soon as I turn on the headlights the instruments on the dash goes dark, as well as my climate control knobs.

unplug the headunit and see if the dash lights still work...

Did you wire up a headlight wire to the stereo for the dimmer?

What wire did you tap into for the earth? Sometimes a park wire can present as an earth wire. I usually create an earth point to the body for stereo's as i have tapped in to the wrong wire for an earth and killed the park lights on my brothers car. Made my own earth and all was good.

This.

Go straight to the body for earth on your head unit.
