80 series hi steer?

Anyone seen an 80 series front diff with leaf springs or hi steer?

I'm seeking a steering arm that will allow the draglink to clear the leafs ASAP. Here is what I have found so far:

*Dobbin Engineering mods and braces existing 80 series steer setup top and bottom of knuckle and provides X rays of welds for engineer. Sounds to be strongest I know of, but takes a while to make.

*OTT industries(Canada) sells FJ80 hi steer arms that bolt on top of knuckle for LHD Cruisers so don't know if they can be used here. Very hard to contact.

*Overkill looking at doing own 80 series hi steer.

*Heard rumours that some have simply lifted and braced existing low mount arm, but don't know if this could be engineered.

There's a guy in Sydney doing histeer for 80s and GQ Patrols, His hi steer setup has been on a couple of 80s for 18 months with no problems, if you are interested send me a PM and I'll give you his number.

I'm bringing this back from the dead. I know Slee does a steering set-up, but it is mainly used for coiled front, double sheer. I've talked to Jim at Inchworm, and he says the OTT arms are nearly impossible to get.

Any one else making a Highsteer/crossover steering set-up for these axles? I didn't see any mention of it on Dobbins page. Also, who is M&M?

I know this thread is almost 4.5 years old, but figured I'd bring it back up while I continue to search.

i have some fj80 knuckles with high steer arms for any toyota with fj80 front axle. RHD or LHD, leaf or link, fj80 or mini truck/buggy, mechanical steering or full hydro. these are way stronger than stock knuckles and any other steering arms ever made for toyota.

no shims to mess with while setting trunion pre-load, just a quick and easy turn of a set screw and jam nut. i have been contacted by several aussies who want this, and these will be available to you through locktup4x4.

it's been a long time coming and it's finally here. :D

in my neck of the woods (usa) they are $850 for the complete kit. if you have a complete axle, all you need to buy are heim joints (3/4x5/8), 5/8 grade 8 bolts, and link tube.

OK so i will be buying a set of these as soon as i can , now for the questions.

Do I need to buy both knuckles? can i just run the left side? or do u need both and therefore needing different steering arms and tie rod thingys?

I second that question. Heims are illegal for on road use here in oz although i guess the arms themselvs are sketchy legally too. Does the second hole mean that your tie rod now goes on the front? I may not have the room to do that with the panhard so can i still run the original tie rod at the rear onthe original lower arms?

X2 on Cranky's question, can i just run the one? I'm guessing that if the relay/tie rod is designed to run on the seconds set of holes then you would need two.

I"m wondering how bad bump steer would be with these as the drag link and panhard would now be at differing angles

Not that i care, i'll still be looking at a set :armsup:

both knuckles are required, and it only sells a s a kit.

the holes closest to the axle are for the tie rod, and the holes furthest away are for the drag link.
panhard relocation on factory fj80's is a must. eventually we will offer a kit for this but for now it's up to a fabricator to set it up.

as for leagalities- these are sold for use on off-road vehicles only, not for highway use. just like heim joints not being legal, along with beadlocks. i drive my trail rig on the street with all these things (for several years) and have never had a problem or a ticket. so while i dont recommend you use this on the street, i can't enforce anything if you choose to take the same "risk" that i do. ;)

if there is enough demand i will probably do a run of arms for fj80 TRE's.

Probably the same reason any body does marginally legal mods to a road going vehicle, and there's plenty of them. Are your tyre's fully legal? is every single mod on your truck completely 100 percent legal when it was on the road?

If you saw the angle my TRE's get subjected to you probably wouldn't ask that question, and considering the fatigue cycling that they suffer frankly i'd prefer the illegality of a system that's designed to get punished likethis than a stock item that's legal but totally under manfactured for what we're trying to do.

Not only that, but my truck while road regoed, rarely gets on the road. It maintains road rego so that the many comps that require road rego are still open to me.

but i can see what you're getting at

I want to run them to help with twisting steering box shafts, also gets rid of the lower arm that has a habit of falling off 80s, and as a bonus it puts ur drag link back into spec.

Thats a major bummer that stock steering cant be incorporated, have you thought about manufacturing different steering arms to allow the use of standardish steering arm position?


Another option is the Marks adaptors HD swivel housing, pity you need to be rich to buy them.

Im not sure what ur saying here mate? why whould u want to buy a high steer but keep the steering arm in the original position? im confused :?

im happy enough to run Billys set up with new arms if i have to, but would rather run tierods for ease of parts replacement. My old highsteer never ran out of angle on the tierods, so i cant see why i need hemijoints?

Im ringing Locktup once they open to find out what the go is
