Bought my first zuk a 2001 GV 2.5L V6 AT, need advice

Post by monmendoza »

Hey mates,

Bought my first suzuki a 2001 GV AT 2.5L V6. What are my lift options
If I want to place 30" or 31" tires. I have searched the net and Seems
there are only a few. Even Calmini does'nt offer them anymore. Anybody here who has lifted there GV'?

Second question, if I cant find lift, I still intend to replace the tires
as it is almost gone anyway. Can I go 29" tires without scrubbing on
a full turn? If not how about 28". Stock btw is 27" (235x60xR16).
Many thanks. :) Btw I have check the bible but the links refering
to lifting a GV are all broken.

Not planning any hard core stuff as I have other rigs for hardcore
purposes. But some of the roads Im going to use it, are rough and
muddy.

Hi mate.. i have a 99 Gv that has 4" lift - 2" suspension & 2" Body Lift. I run 245/70 r16's.

I know that there are a few GV's running bigger tyres but i feel for the little gain offroad its not worth the hassel - my rear tyres slightly rub on the wheel arch plastics and fronts rub on the chassis on full lock. Remember the bigger tyres you run the more it will affect the gearing.

My lift is based on the lift offered by rocky road outfitters in the US. Basicly they run OME struts in the front and OME springs with spacers and there own rear shocks.

Calmini is not the best quality product - you only need to search a few other threads here to find that out....

245 70 R16 is 29.5 and thats all that can be fitted with 4" of total Lift?
My oh my, now I understand why there are so few GV's on the trail.
Luckily I have no plans to make this an offroad rig. Are there MT or AT
tires that are 27" or 28" in diameter? Never seen one. Many thanks
again. :)

i have seen a few on the net running 31's but that would take a bit of mods to the wheel arches.... and that would not make 5th gear great for anything other then flat highways.

i run silverstones at's - BF's make a few that would fit that are mt's.

I have seen quite a few around that run 225 75 r 16s kuhmos that are not a bad mud tyre... but tyres are quite limited until your get to 245 75 r16's

I was a bit disappointed at the limited aftermarket options too... i have a winch from a previous car that i cant fit due to no one making a bar to fit a GV. But once you get over that they are quite a good all round 4x4... went to Fraser island in April and it was great we went everywhere we wanted to go with ease and play locally on some tracks and it goes not too bad, nothing like my old SPOA serria but good for a allrounder that fits the family.

Lockers.... air lockers are the only real option... i have a lockright that i got after being told it would fit but i dont think it will....

Not sure about the gears, i would asume no but dont really know.

you wrote difflock as one of your future plans. May I know
how your going to do it? Are you planning to install ARB?
or are there any other options? Many thanks. :)

I own a 1999 SQ625 GV and ive built it up to run 31x10.5R16 Silverstone Xtremes.

Ive had to basically go at this on my own as there are almost no others out there that have done it...

My set up is 40mm lift coils, 20mm front coil spacers and bumpstop spacers , 40mm rear coil spacers and bump stop spacers, Dobinsons struts, Camber bolts, Lots of inner guard trimming, and a few little tricks ill keep to my self. (dodgy stuff)

Lockers are quite simple for the GV. Front uses the same lockrights as a sierra and Vitara. Rear is same as Vitara.

If you want to lock the front you need to replace the diff center with a vitara center and install manual hubs. From factory the GV has an air operated 4wd engagement system built into the front center and apart from welding it solid its not goint to be any use. Once you have installed a Vit center you have to block off the air lines.... dont rempve it as it tells the dash light to work.

Hope ive been a help.
