LN106 drop draglink problems
Ive got a 93 Ln106 hilux. After fitting new 2inch ironman front springs the drop draglink hit the spring when I turned the steering wheel and hit the shock when I turned it in the opposite direction so I bent the draglink so I could drive it. I bought a new draglink and I cant even get it on the J arm, the spring is in the way, and if I could get it on it would still hit the shock. I would post up some photos of it but don't know how to post them up.
Hope someone can help?

Your sring pack is too think by the sound of it mate. Also drop drag links are common for snapping j arms if there isn't enough lift.

No they don't. You can get a straigh shortened one but I think all the aftermarket ones have bigger joints on them which is giving you problems.

Thats the one that i bent,If i remove a leaf or 2 would this change anything in the front end,IE sagging,bad handeling ? or can the standard draglink be cut and welded?

Are your u bolts flat on top because you need flat ones for a dropped drag link.

Have you got a standard draglink to try?
I have 2" lift ironmans (sagged with age now) on my LN106 and it still uses a standard draglink.
I'll post a pic later if it helps to see what standard looks like.

Yeah that link is designed for about 5 inchs of lift by the looks. Go back to a straight 35mm shorter one.

I Might have to cut it because i think the diff has been moved forward 30mm(ithink)i dont have a standard one,ill have to ring some wreckers.not many wreckers that have 4wd's around here(Nowra) It also has an adjustable Diff locator/torque rod and a 30mm spacer between the front tail shaft and the diff pinion if thats anything

Something bout ln106 and steering. Bloke I know has 4" springs in his lux with 2" shackles and a straight draglink.
In your case a straight 1 is the way to go. Superiorengineering.com.au bring out a straight draglink that is 35mm shorter. It's $300 bit pricey but should do the trick

Ill have to try and get my money back on the repacement drop drag link i just bought last week,$330 and get a short straight one after i do some measurments.Is there anyway of telling if the diff is definatly moved forward without pulling the springs out.It has the adjustable torque rod and pinion spacer.I just want to make sure before spending anymore money.

Remove draglink. Make sure wheels are straight in pitman arm is in the middle position. Same lock to lock both ways and measure. Someone should know

i read on another site that if i adjust the torque rod i might be able to get the clearance i need to fit the draglink.Is this true? If so do i need to tighten it up or loosen it?

Take the torque rod off and see how it sits without the torque rod. Thatll tell you if you have clearance

The saga continues....

Easy way to fix is to grind off the top of the ball on your J arm. Knock out the ball and put it on top of the J arm and reweld it back on underneath. Then the drag link will be on top of the J arm instead of underneath. Make sense? Common fix in the states. Not many people do it over here. J arm should be heated before welding and then cooled slowly.

i Was thinking about the J arm,but was told they will break before they bend.I rang ironman australia and was put intouch with one of there dealers in my area,so ill ring them tomorrow and see where that takes me.Hope they can fix it,i havent been bush bashing for ages and im suffering withdrawals from it.Failing that im gonna "modify" my draglink(cut,bend,weld) cause im over it, its a basic 2"spring replacement,nothing hardcore. Another thought,are the J Arms off diffrent model hilux's the same size? ie height,bend radius,etc, Could the jarm on my truck be off a difrent model? The jarm just doesnt look right to me.
Im not real keen on fliping and welding the ball on the j-arm. They look like cast iron or steel which dont like to be welded,id hate it to snap while tackleing a hard part of Yalwal....(Nearly in my back yard.)

Also my torque rod adjustment bolt looks welded,so i have to take it off to adjust it,does this look right if so whats the point of the lock nut?

The lock nut will stop the thread from getting sloppy. Otherwise overtime the thread can wear from the push and pull forces.

Dasha, my LN106 also has 2 inch lift springs & I had the same problem as yours. The j-arm looks bent too far down.

Finally got it fixed.My truck had diff location plates that sat under the spring(my diff was moved forward 35mm).with a spring pack of 5 leafs it would have been ok but with 6 leafs it made the spring pack too high .Of all the people that looked at it and couldnt tell what was causing it,i took it to a place called Crookhaven Mechanical at culburra beach.It took 1 minute for them to see the problem and had it fixed in under a hour,so if your in the Nowra area and have 4x4 issues its worth giving these guys a call.Heres the plates
