$99!
I picked one up this morning. Not top quality obviously but it looks good enough for a few weekend DIY projects. (That's what I bought it for)

Cheers mate will do, just hit up trick tools, with the dollar the way it is I could get a 32 for less than a grand bringing it over with 123engines.V.W.Dave wrote:Save the money and buy it once and buy it right. I recently got a pro tools 105hd with a 1.5" die set for under a grand landed through TMR customs. Use the pirate 4x4 discount code for a further 10% off his prices, Tim was great to deal with a put a package together that suited my needs perfectly.
Re: tube bender

Re: tube bender
I opted for the JD2 Model 3. Once you have the nack of it and allowing for spring back. Very nice gear. It bends 40nb pipe extra light, light and medium. Pretty damn well.
Only complaint I have. Is that it comes as a machined finish and when moisture gets to it, all the exposed bits rust. So gotta keep it clean and spray it.

Re: tube bender
mate theres no need to go spending massive amounts on benders and that. i paid $200 for a air over bender the same as that supercheap auto. aslong as you set your pins right and use correct u wont have a drama ive made all my guards for my 47. sliders and an exo and for the money it cost me it hasnt missed a beat.

If its not seen and you dont mind a few kinks. Thats fine. But, having seen first hand the difference between $200 supercheap ones and a propper mandrel bender. Chalk and cheese
Re: tube bender
So before I order, trying to sort out what die to get. I was thinking 1 3/4 180 degree 6.5clr. Whats everyones thoughts, what is most common size tube used for barwork

nothing wrong with the bends it makes bigboy. its a 4by not some summernats show car. why spends big bucks on a bender when u can get close to the same result for $39 800 less

Re: tube bender
As far as dies go, it depends on what ur building with it. Roll cages have specific sizes so I would check the specs if u where looking at building a cage. Also pays to check the local steel shops and make sure they can get the size u want.

Re: tube bender
I have 1 3/4 5.5" Clr and I think it is a better radius to work with, because it allows for smaller bends which can be handy.stilivn wrote:So before I order, trying to sort out what die to get. But you have to use 2.6 walled DOM to ensure no kinky stuff goes down. Not much extra cost if you are planning to use DOM anyway.
Re: tube bender
I refer to it as a mandrel. Its as close as you can get without spending a fortune on machinery eg.. DIY. And anyone who has 1 will say its pretty damn close... But no, its not a full mandrel bender. I have stated its a jd2 model 3. Anyone can look them up on youtube and see for themselves thats its not a full 120k machine. Dont you have something better to do than split hairs?Z()LTAN wrote:whats all this talk about a mandrel bender? Do u even know what one is bigboy? I can assure you that you do not have this...

Re: tube bender
Mate there is a huge difference end of story. At one glance anyone that knows roll cages and or tube work will pick it.84sloth wrote:nothing wrong with the bends it makes bigboy. its a 4by not some summernats show car. why spends big bucks on a bender when u can get close to the same result for $39 800 less
There is a place for the cheap ones and I do have one but the quality of the bent and the shape of the tube through the bent is black and white.
Re: tube bender
I have the jd32 hydraluic. Havnt used it yet. Nb32 and Nb40 5.5 clr die sets.

And the difference in princable is???.....
Apart from the computerised bit and some more support. Looks pretty close to same machine in theory to me. The jd does crush the tube ever so slightly. But, I would call it a mandrel more so than a supercheap crush bender.
Call it what ever you like. It works great.

Re: tube bender
The internets has a wonderful way of clouding the truth.
A mandrel bender uses an internal 'mandrel' to expand the internal of the pipe/tube when its 'drawn' over it. This is where the term DOM or drawn over mandrel comes from.
It is a very different beast

Re: tube bender
I'm surprised nobody had mentioned it - the JD's are just die benders, and as Z()LTAN said, mandrel benders have a 'mandrel' the travels within the tube to prevent it from crushing, hence the name 'mandrel bender'.

Re: tube bender
The line is deffinately fuzzy these days. Arent they the same machine just without the spring and donuts (inserts)?
Re: tube bender
So when people talk about Nb32 and Nb40 how does that translate into inches? Is there a difference in die sizes opposed to Inch measurements?

Re: tube bender
Yes, there is metric and imperial. metric is pipe - imperial is tube. just check out the die sets at opw.
Re: tube bender
Cheers, found this
Pipe Vs Tube
What is the difference between Pipe and Tube?
In short: Tube is measured by outside diameter, pipe is measured by inside diameter.
There is often confusion as to which size die the customer actually needs - Pipe Size or Tubing Size.
Keep in mind that pipe size refers to a nominal - not actual - inside pipe diameter. Schedule refers to the pipe's wall thickness. The actual physical OD is larger than it's nominal OD.
The dimensions provided for tubing on the other hand refer to the actual outside diameter. In other words, the actual physical OD of a tube is just the same as it's nominal OD. The size of a tube will keep the same OD no mater what the wall thickness is.
For example: The actual outside diameter of 1¼″ pipe is 1.625″ - while 1¼″ tube has a true 1.25″ outside diameter.
Consequently, both the size of tube and pipe is measured by it's OD and the thickness.
Why the difference between Pipe and Tube?
Pipes are used to transport something, and tubes to construct something; hence, tubes are defined by the outside diameter and wall thickness (for construction stability), and pipes are measured by inside diameter to allow a calculation for transportation viz., speed, volumes etc. (OD = ID + 2 × WT)
Key
ID=Inside Diameter
OD= Outside Diameter
WT=Wall Thinkness

Re: tube bender
you can get good bends from a bow n arrow style and there not really that expensive, the one thing u will need to spend some coin on tho is a decent die this is what will give u a good bend.
