Do you have any idea what it is, or why it is left over ...? ie. just replaced head, etc?

I have no idea... I found it in my sump during the last oil change... I am trying to decipher where it originated from & how it got there :D

It is clearly a bush. All cars had bushes in the 70s, a lot of cars still had them in the 80s and even early 90s. All this means is that you have modernised your car; bushes are completely out of fashion these days.
