Blown Turbo..?

Post by Moonman »

Hi All,

Currently running a 96 model 80 series, 1HZ with aftermarket toyota turbo which was already fitted when I bought it. Not sure of the model but believe it is the same as on the 1HDT. After my last fishing trip towing a 1.5t boat for 400km it seems my turbo has given up the ghost? A lot of oil has blown out of the manifold and from the seal around the turbo itself, There was a lot of white smoke. I cold started the engine the next day and it ran ok whithout any load but I was not game to test it any further. I am yet to take anything apart but would my asumption of the turbo being gone be the likely problem. If so am I best to seek a new one or rebuild the existing? If sourcing a new one what brand/model would be best?

Cheers
